PRACTICAL # 7

AIM:- Configure a system for various security experiments.

1. CREATING USER ACCOUNT WITH PASSWORD


 Click Start.
 Click Control Panel.
 Click User Accounts and Family Safety.
(a) For creating a password:
 Under User Accounts, click Create a password for your account.
 Type a password in the first blank field.
 Retype the password in the second blank field to confirm it.
 Type a hint for your password (optional).
 Click Create Password.

(b) Already have a password and want to make it stronger and change it to something more secure:
 Under User Accounts, click Change your Windows password.
 Type your current password in the text field as indicated.
 Retype the password in the second blank field to confirm it.

(c) For other accounts on the computer:


 Click Add or remove user accounts.
 If a user account exists, click on its name.
 Follow the steps above to set or change a password.

(d) Disabling the guest account on a computer and preventing people without an account from logging
into the computer.
 Click Start.
 Click Control Panel.
 Click User Accounts and Family Safety.
 Click Add or remove user accounts.
 If the system tells you that the Guest Account is turned off, no further action is required. If you
do not see a notification that the Guest Account is turned off, you will need to click Guest
Account.
 Click Turn off the guest account.
 Close the Manage Accounts window.

2. ACCESS CONTROL FOR USER
 Login to your computer as an admin.
 Right-click on the file or folder you want to change permissions and select Properties.
 Select the Security tab. The list of groups and users that you see have permissions for this folder.
 Click the Advanced Sharing button
 Click the Change Permissions button.
 Select a group or username.
 Set the permissions for the selected group or user.
 Click on Ok ApplyOk

3. WINDOWS DEFENDER UPDATING:


 Go to control panel.
 Click on windows defender.
 Check for the updates.

4. FIREWALL CONFIGURATION:
 Go to control panel.
 Click on windows firewall.
 Turn on the firewall.
 Select the programs which is to be allowed to communicate through firewall.
 Also from the advanced settings Inbound and Outbound rules can be set.

5. GROUP POLICY EDITING:


(i) PASSWORD POLICY
 Go to Start Runtype gpedit.msc or type group policy in the start menu.
 Local group policy editor opens.
 Go to Computer configurations Windows settings Security settings Account policies
 Click on password policiesSelect the type of policy required and apply the settings.

(ii) PREVENT ACCESS TO COMMAND PROMPT


 Go to Start Runtype gpedit.msc or type group policy in the start menu.
 Local group policy editor opens.
 Go to User configurations Administrative Templates Systems
 Click on prevent access to command prompt Enable itApply Ok

(iii) PREVENT ACCESS TO CONTROL PANEL


 Go to Start Runtype gpedit.msc or type group policy in the start menu.
 Local group policy editor opens.
 Go to User configurations Administrative Templates Control panel
 Click on prohibit access to a control panel Enable it Apply Ok

(iv) PREVENT REMOVABLE DEVICES


 Go to Start Runtype gpedit.msc or type group policy in the start menu.
 Local group policy editor opens.
 Go to Computer configurations Administrative Templates Systems
 Click on Removal storage access Select the type of policies Disable it Apply Ok
