13. Chemical Fertilizer doesn’t contain carbon because green

plants are capable of fixing atmospheric carbon, and converting
it to simple sugars. Plants obtain carbon by absorbing carbon
dioxide from the air. This carbon makes up most of the building
materials that plants use to build new leaves, stems, and roots.
The oxygen used to build glucose molecules is also from carbon
dioxide.
14. Climate is the general weather pattern in an area. The factors
that determine a region's climate are temperature and
precipitation.
15. Explain how latitude and elevation affect temperature of a
region:
 Temperature changes with latitude. At the equator, the Sun’s rays are
most direct and at higher latitudes, the Sun’s rays are less direct. The
farther an area is from the equator, the lower its temperature.
 Elevation is the distance above sea level. At higher
elevations, the atmosphere is thinner, so more heat escapes
back into space. As a result, the higher the elevation, the
colder the temperature.
