WHAT IS SOCIAL WORKER ?

• Social work is the art, science, profession of helping those in need and helping the
individuals functions in their environment.
• It involves helping individuals, families, and groups of people to cope up with problems
they’re facing to improve their patients lives. One aspects of this is teaching skills and
developing mechanism for patients to rely on to better their lives and experiences.

2. Respecting the dignity and worth of a person.
3. Integrity and behaving in a trustworthy manner.
4. And most important never forget our humanity.

Alag Natrajan
( The Matka- Man)
Alag natarajan, an engineer, returned to India in 2005 after spending over 32 years in london.
He has placed 60- plus matkas in and around south Delhi for thirsty passerby and the poor.
People fondly call him “Matka-Man”, because he always woke up early in the morning to fill the
matkas, also especially modified his van to deliver water.

Dr. Bhakti Yadav
( Dr. Dadi)
She was 91 years old gynaecologist in Indore, has been treating her patients for free
since 1948. Indore‘s first woman doctor, she has treated over 1 lakh patients free of
cost. People call her “Doctor Dadi”, she was recently conferred the fourth- highest
civilian honour, Padma Shri.

Gangadhara tilak katnam
( Road Doctor)
This 67 years old man is fondly called “Road Doctor” as he uses his own money to
fix public roads. He has fixed over 1200 potholes in his hometown of Hyderabad,
prevented accidents and saved many lives. He conceptualised a program called
“Shramadaan” means getting physical help and started getting public and govt.

Sunita krishnan
( prajwala founder)
She heads “ Prajwala” – an organisation that rescues, rehabilitates and reintegrates sex-
trafficked victims into society. She has been gang raped by 8 men at the age of 15 , she
refused to break down and faced social pressures bravely. She has helped rescue more than
4000 girls from being forced into prostitution. She has commited her life as a full time
volunteer to help women in brothels by giving their children education and career opportunities.

Karimul Haque
(Bike-Ambulance Dada)
He runs 24×7 free bike- Ambulance for the needy and poor, He’s known as “ Bike-Ambulance
Dada”.
The inspiration for starting a bike ambulance service in his area came from a sad incident whrn
his mother suffered a heart attack in midnight... And he could not save her as he was not
able to take her to the hospital due to non availability of ambulance facility. After 8 years of
selfless service, he has been awarded the fourth highest civilian award in the country, Padma
Shri.
