TC 4 – The Teacher and the Community, School Culture, and Organizational Leadership
"I have cherished the ideal of a democratic and free society in which all people lived
together in harmony and had equal opportunities," Nelson Mandela said.
We've always had this ideal society in our heads, and we often fantasize about how the
world would be if we had one. Perhaps we would live in a better world if the society we imagine
existed, but it does not. There were times when we wondered how we could create this type of
society. It was difficult in some ways because we cannot control what others want and do not
have the power to persuade them to believe what we believe. However, it should always begin
within ourselves because our micro efforts can have a large impact on the betterment of our
society. Our ideal society has the following characteristics:
We will never have a perfect society because there is none. So, we should be reminded of
our ideal society because it will serve as a guidepost for the things we do on a daily basis. It will
serve as a reminder to do the things that will help us achieve the ideal society for which we strive.
Even if we cannot experience an ideal society, we can experience a society that is far superior to
what we currently have if we are eager enough to build our ideal society.
