GUIDELINES 

FOR REQUESTING TO TAKE THE ORAL DEFENCE/GRADUATION CEREMONY 
REMOTELY 
The winter graduation session will take place in person for all students. As an exception, if you are 
in one of the following situations, you can request to take your oral defence/graduation ceremony 
remotely, following a specific online procedure. You are allowed to send the request if: 

1. You are currently quarantined or self‐isolating at home with health surveillance in 
accordance with current regulations; 
2. You are still testing positive to COVID‐19 after an extended period of time (positivo di lungo 
termine, i.e. you are still testing positive to COVID‐19 after more than 21 days but you have 
a certificate issued by the Italian Health Authority‐ASL that allows you to end isolation even 
without testing negative to COVID); 
3. You have severe health problems or you are an immunocompromised person (art. 58 of DL 
73/2021 converted into Law 106/2021); 
4. You are unable to leave your house due to mobility restrictions imposed by national or 
regional regulations (for students who reside in Italy); 
5. You live abroad and you are unable to travel to Italy due to international mobility 
restrictions. 

If you are included in one of the above categories, you can fill out an online form, attach ‐ where 
requested – some supporting documents, and submit your request before the deadlines. In 
particular: 

1. Certificate issued by the Italian Health Authority (ASL) or by another national health 
authority (for example your family physician) or by a foreign health authority (in English) 
ordering quarantine or self‐isolation. Alternatively, you can present a positive covid‐19 test 
(it can also be an antigen rapid test). The test date must not be prior to the 14 days before 
the final examination. The test result must clearly state the student’s personal information. 
You can submit this request until 12.00 (noon) of the day before the graduation;  

Starting from 12.00 (noon) of the prior day until two hours before the graduation, you do 
not necessarily need to attach any document to make the request. The documents that 
prove the positivity, quarantine or fiduciary isolation could be uploaded later; 

2. Certificate stating the end of your self‐isolation and result of a COVID positive test taken no 
longer than 48 hours before. You can submit this request until 12.00 (noon) of the day 
before the final examination (noon); 
3. Declaration signed by the competent health authorities or by your family physician stating 
that you need to take your final examination remotely (the declaration must not mention 
your medical condition). You can submit this request no later than two days before the 
final examination; 
4. You do not need to upload any supporting document because Politecnico will verify if there 
is any travel restriction depending on the Region where you reside and ministerial 
regulations. If your request to take the final examination is approved, Politecnico will check 
the location from which you connect to the Internet; 
 5. Upload the link to the official government website of the country where you reside that 
specifies the travel restrictions. You can submit this request no later than two days before 
the final examination. If your request is approved, Politecnico will check the location from 
which you connect to the Internet. 

At the moment, considering current regulations in force, condition no. 4 cannot be selected. This 
option will become available if the government approves new national mobility restrictions that do 
not provide mobility exceptions for study reasons. 
If the oral defence and graduation ceremony take place on different days, you will have to fill 2 
request forms. 
Submission of the request 

 The procedure to request to take the final examination remotely, will be available after the 
definition of the official call (students receive their official call by email and on their personal 
page on the “News” section). The form “Request to take final examination remotely” is on 
the Portlet Degree and Final examination;  
 

 
 
 Politecnico will evaluate your request and you will find the outcome of the evaluation on the 
same page where you filled out the form; 
 If  your  request  is  approved,  an  email  will  be  automatically  sent  to  the  Secretariat  of  the 
Collegio, the Tutor/Supervisor and the Commission President. Students allowed to sit the 
final examination remotely will join it by using the link of the Virtual classroom, available on 
the  personal  student  page,  “News”  section.  In  case  of  any  changes  in  timetables  or 
modalities, the Secretariat will contact the student. 
 
Verification of declarations truthfulness: 
Before and even after the oral defence/graduation ceremony, Politecnico can verify the truthfulness 
of the documents and information that you have submitted to take the final examination remotely. 
The University will check the location from which you are connecting to the Internet. 
If the certificates will be evaluated as false, the student will be reported to the Disciplinary Board.
