You are reading the Handicraft (Macramé & Basketry) for Senior High School: First
Quarter Alternative Delivery Mode (ADM) Module on “Enumerate the Different Kinds of
Macramé and Basketry Products” as written and found in the K-12 Most Essential Learning
Competencies.

The creation of this module is a combined effort of competent educators from different
levels and various schools of the Department of Education-Cebu Province. In addition, this
module is meticulously planned, organized, checked, and verified by knowledgeable educators to
assist you in imparting the lessons to the learners while considering the physical, social and
economic restraints in the teaching process.

The use of the Teacher-made Educational Module aims to surpass the challenges of
teaching in a new normal education set-up. Through this module, the students are given

WHAT IS IT

The Philippines is blessed with natural resources, which provides us with raw materials
that can be used in making handicrafts such as Macramé and Basketry. As we all know, the
Philippines is one of the exporters of Handicraft products. These products range from different
types. So, what are some of the Macramé and Basketry Products we can make out from the raw
materials found in our place?

MACRAMÉ PRODUCTS

Belts

Fashion Belts can be made from


using of cotton twine, cord, leather, or
yarns. Some put beads and stones
combined in making the knots.

Bracelets

These are accessories mostly worn by


the wrists and is mostly made using
cords, leather, cotton twines or yarns.
Stones, beads, and gems are
sometimes used as designs.

Wall Hangings

These are decorations mounted on


walls for a nice and refreshing look.
These are made of macramé cords and
made of different knots.

Plant Hangers

These plant holders for hanging plants.


Spiral knots are common for its handle
for a nice and unique design.

Bags

Macramé bags are fashion bags with


Bohemian style. It can be used as a
fashion article for carrying things.

Purse

Macramé purses are just the same


as macramé bags. These things are
used as a fashion article or as a
wallet for coins and bills.

Earrings

Macramé earrings are of different


variety. Most of it are incorporated
with beads, gems, or stones and
metals too. It gives a Bohemian
imprint fashion style. Dangling
earrings made of macramé knots;
tassel earrings are macramé
earrings.

Necklace

Just the same with earrings,


necklaces are a trend fashion
statement too. These things are worn
by the neck to put some emphasis on
the neck.

Curtains
Macramé curtains are curtains made
from macramé cords. They are a great
addition to door-less closets,
hallways, or even just hung as wall art.

Other Decors

Macramé decors are other macramé


products not mentioned here. from,
pillow cover, bed frames, table liners,
headboards, coasters, jar holders,
and many more that is used for
decorating that can give a Bohemian
accent or vintage accent.

BASKETRY PRODUCTS

Baskets

Baskets are container a container used to


hold or carry things, typically made from
interwoven strips of cane or wire. These are
made from different plant materials like
bamboo, pandan leaves, buri and among
others.
Bags

Same with baskets, these are also made


from plant materials and is used as a fashion
article for a vintage or unique look.

Hammocks

These are used for resting. These kinds of


hammocks are made from plant materials
like bamboo splints or rattan.

Vases

These are used as containers or


decoration inside and outside the house.

Wall Decors and Stands

These are used as decorations, mounted


on walls, or used as stands or dividers or
trays.

Wall Hangings

These are used as decorations, some


put lights inside it to have a nice and
refreshing ambiance in a place. Some
put plants too.

Hats

These are used to protect the head from


the heat of the sun. Mostly made from
pandan or buri leaves.

Plates and Strainers

These are made up of bamboo splints,


Tikog, buri, and is mostly used during
fiesta or picnic or as fruit baskets. Can
be used as a good container for
centerpieces too.

Containers

Most of the purpose for basketry


products is used as a container. From
being a simple basket to a covered one.
It just depends on how the maker sees
and improves it.
Furniture and Fixtures

As time goes by, technology of man also


improves, from being a simple basket,
mankind innovated it to different fixtures
and furniture like chairs, sofa, tables,
cabinets and even the walls of the house.
