A proper noun is a specific name for a common noun. It always begins with a capital letter.

Examples:

1. Dr. Santos is a dentist.

Counters for nouns

Mass nouns these are nouns that you cannot count one by one.

Examples:
Water juice milk

To show their amount, whether one or many, you use a counter.

Singular and Plural Forms of Count Nouns

Count nouns – nouns that can be counted one by one. Count nouns have their singular and plural forms.
There are rules for forming the plural of count nouns.

1. You add -s to most count nouns.


Examples:
Pencil – pencils car – cars

2. You add -es to count nouns that end in s, z, ch, sh, or x.


Examples:
Bench – benches bush - bushes
Fox – foxes bus – buses

3. You add -s to nouns that have a vowel e and the letter y at the end.
Examples:
Pulley – pulleys monkey – monkeys donkey – donkeys

4. If a noun has a consonant and the letter y at the end, you change the y to I and add -es.
Examples:
Lady – ladies cherry – cherries lily – lilies
