ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
This neighborhood survey report on the topic "Are videos replacing
books?" could not be possible without the collective support and
motivation of our teachers.

I sincerely thank our English teacher, Mr. Umesh Saud. He stood by

my side, correcting me wherever and whenever I went wrong and
providing me invaluable guidance throughout this project. It was a great
privilege and honor to work and study under their guidance. I am very
grateful for what they have offered me. His words have always been
great aids.

I am grateful to the people being interviewed for their active

participation and collaboration, they took time out of their busy schedule
to interact with me and offer valuable data. I also want to express my
heartfelt gratitude to the school for the provision of this facility and a
great helping hand in the learning process of us students.

I shall also give credits to my parents and siblings for the necessary help
and continuous support and motivations towards the development of this
project.

In the end, I would like to thank everyone who were a part of this project
and also to them who inspired me to take such survey reports forward.
All their efforts are appreciated.
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The project deals with the analytical study for the topic "Are videos
replacing books?". It’s a survey report that was made by interviewing
people from our neighborhood locality. This survey embraces the views
of the interviewee of all the questions they answered bit by bit which is
integrated onto this survey report. Pupils of multifarious age groups,
occupations and gender are fetched for conduction while some pupils
with similar age or occupation are fetched to find a direct contrast
between their views.

The questions asked are framed such that we could interpret the
information to find the similarities or differences regarding their views
and so that it doesn’t become tedious for the recipient of interview to
answer. Technological impact, media influence, imagination of future,
preferential demand for present and myths related to past are also taken
into considerations while presenting the questions.

Collective data are put into study and represented in this report to find
conclusive evidence and also to answer some of the commonly asked
questions regarding this issue. Graphical representation of data is done
along with that recommendations are also provided. This research would
help the present generation to know what are they supposed to do and
also to inspire the future generations to the correct way. Supervision is
done to ensure that fictitious information is not provided and also
anyone or anything is not disrespected during the entire conduction of
the project.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE

This neighborhood survey report is done as a practical work for English

core (subject code: 301) subject which is prescribed by Central Board of
Secondary Education.

From my childhood I was fond of reading books and I have developed a

special place in my heart for books. As months passed technology kept
on advancing until a stage reached when even simple concepts were
available online through videos or movies and everybody started using
technology for reading purposes. I also have preferred videos for study
purposes over books only due to some time constraints and for the ease
of understandability, but this don't mean that I turned a blind eye toward
books. During such times I was really curious to know which one do
people prefer the most a book or a video for a common topic of interest.
What is it that a video can do and a book can't do also what a book can
do and a video can't do.

The objective of this neighborhood survey report is to find out the

proclivity of majority of people between a book and a video for a
common topic of interest and also to make people clear about how to
choose wisely when they have a choice between a book and a video.

METHODOLOGY

There are different ways to collect data in today's globalized era. I have
chosen to collect data through interviews for my neighborhood survey
report.

The interviews were conducted by reaching the interviewee's place and

where some physical communication was not possible it was conducted
online through video conferencing software.

I asked multifarious questions to my neighbors so that I could extract the

maximum information possible. I preferred taking interview one at a
time so that I could get varying opinions and suggestions about the topic
from each one of them. People of various age groups, different
occupations and background were interviewed.

On 14th February 2022 all the interviews were conducted in Soalteecity

apartment, Ravibhawan. Ten people were interviewed among which four
were students, three were business person, one was an engineer, another
one was a teacher and last one was a marketer.

RESULTS/FINDINGS

After careful study and analysis I was able find out some results.
Most of the people prefer books over videos to save time. Videos are
much more time efficient and exciting while books may be time
consuming and difficult to interpret. Movies/Videos convey more
emotions, our mind starts responding to the characters but such scenario
is not achieved while reading books. People are becoming more and
more busy, in such limited time videos grabs people attention rather than
a book due to the its capability to offer content in little time.

Books increase vocabulary, are more detailed and offer more conceptual
content. In movies/videos common words are used that an ordinary guy
doesn’t find it difficult to understand, this does not increase vocabulary.
For informative content book would be best preferred as reading books
make us more creative and imaginative. In movies things are already
working on its own and we just need to consume the content.

Any two people rarely read the same book but for movies or videos there
exists a horde of people who watched it. Movies are vast produced and
so are books. The demand between the two will never be declining. It
entirely depend upon one's preference. So for future both of them will
have their own importance although many people would prefer videos
over a book.

CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS

It is a damning stain on our society that the majority of teenagers would

rather watch a video adaptation than pick up a book. If a novel has been
turned into a film you should always read the novel first because it
enchants your imagination more. Moreover, you should read the book
first as the author imagined the plot the way they wrote it. Although
watching the film can give you a new interpretation of the story, it can
also ruin the way you imagined it.
Subsequently, pupils can read for pleasure or study and hopefully secure
better jobs in the near future. Books are always the start of great stories.
You never watch a film and think that it should be turned into a book –
most good films are based on books.
Although people have preferred videos more than books don't mean they
will be replaced. Books have their importance in their own field and so
does videos.
For recommendations, it would be handy to prioritize videos when a
person is required to know more in less time. Videos are preferred for
easy understanding, to divert our mind, for entertainment purposes and
for studying about dynamic stuff.
Books are recommended for detailed study, portability of books comes
in handy while travelling. Books may be used to enhance mental health
and also to know more about static stuff.

APPENDICES

The questions asked to the people were framed such that to extract
valuable data in just few words. They were first asked casually what
types of book they are interested in reading and what type of videos are
they interested in watching.
Following up with the conversation, the interviewer figured out the
common topic of interest of reading books and watching videos. Then
the person was asked to imagine a situation where he had to choose
between a book or a video for the same topic then what would he pick
and why.
If in case no commonalities were found then the interviewer puts
forward some cases which takes the person being interviewed to study
the case and answer accordingly.
For the future outlook they were asked a question which may depend
from one person to the other that in the future will book lose its
importance or will videos be less preferred than book by the people.
They are asked for justification.
Lastly they were to choose between a book and video (according to their
preference) for the following quotidian topics:
I. Entertainment VI.Fiction
II.Education VII.Non-fiction
III.Myths VIII.Science & technology
IV.Business/economics IX.Horror stuff
V.Nature and wildlife X.Biographies
