Effective Communication Activity

Give three restrictions that you can set on each of the following communication situation:

1. Conversation during family dinner

 Avoid talking when your mouth is full.

 Do not say unnecessary things in front of dining area.
 Do not interfere when the adults our talking.

2. An informal debate

 Do not say foul words or anything personal.

 Do not talk when the opponents are not yet done talking.
 Do not say anything related to bible.

3. Entering the faculty room

 Do not enter the faculty room without knocking or saying excuse.

 Do not forget to greet everyone as you enter the room.
 Avoid looking at the teacher’s things if not needed.

How can you apply nomination in the following situations? Explain your answers.

1. You meet your cousin from the province during a family reunion. The last time that you saw
each other was during grade school.

 I am going to approach her and ask how she is and what is up to her. I will join
her with her lunch. I will be the one to take the first move. By talking to her you
will be able to be close and get along with her.

2. Your classmate invited you for lunch at their house. During lunch, your classmate excused
himself or herself to get the dessert. You are left with your classmate’s mother in the dining
room.

 I will volunteer myself to help her prepare the dessert to avoid awkward situation
with her parents because I’m still shy to talk with her mother. After volunteering,
I will open up a topic to her mother so we can have a conversation and to be close
with her, so the next I will go there, I am not shy anymore.
3. You and your best friend got into an argument and he stopped talking to you. You do not want
the argument to come between you and your best friend.

 I will approach her and open up a topic so she will talk back to me and I am going
to apologize to her to fix the situation. There is a big chance that our friendship
will end if no one wants to lower than their pride, it is not a big deal if you take
the first move besides she is my best friend.
