How To Utilize The Backing Tracks.
If you are reading this, it means you have either bought “The Complete
Drummer’s Guide (Printed Version)“ which is only available in Australia
and NZ, and you have now downloaded your 36 free backing tracks.
Or, you have come here via a promotional offer, which means you may not, as
yet, be familiar with “The Complete Drummer’s Guide Series“ at all.
Therefore to find out more, please continue reading this section for full details.
Please note: within this booklet are the 36 free drum charts, to the 36 free
backing tracks. However if you’d like to obtain a total of 135 backing tracks,
plus bonus material, there are two options available, but more about that later.
The First Step.
Firstly, for those who have purchased “TCDG (Printed Version)” all of the 36 free
backing tracks, are “Minus One” (i.e. minus drums) and there are two ways to
utilize them. The first way, or first step, is to simply play the drum beat patterns (as
they are introduced throughout the book) along to the corresponding backing
tracks. When utilized in this way, the backing tracks are open to interpretation.
Therefore you could simply think of them, as musical metronomic grooves for
jamming along to. This helps to develop feel, creativity, timing and musicality,
right from the start. And also, only a basic reading level is required at this
stage (i.e. you’ll only need to learn to read the basic drum beat patterns, as
they are firstly introduced. So no drum chart reading is required at this point).
The next, or second step, is to utilize these same backing tracks, to develop
your practical sight-reading skills, and this is achieved by introducing written
arrangements, that correspond to each tune. These written arrangements start
out very easy to read and play and gradually progress to the advanced level.
Therefore, the idea is to introduce this second sight-reading step, once you are
comfortable with the first step, of simply jamming along to the backing tracks, and
also, as you progress further into your drum set studies.
Also included with all downloads of “TCDG (Book Of Drum Charts)” are the
12 additional free bonus backing tracks, plus drum charts. Information
about these 12 bonus backing tracks can be found within the book itself.
So, based on your situation, the choice is yours on wether to buy and download the
“TCDG Full Version” or “TCDG Book Of Drum Charts.” Whatever you decide,
the big advantage in having access to the full range of material, is that you will
possess all of the information that has been designed to take your drumming from
the beginners level, all the way to the advanced level and beyond.
Now that you know The Complete Drummer’s Guide (Full Version) is an “All In
One” combination of each of these classic drum books (which makes it very
convenient and affordable for you) I would highly recommend that you obtain
(at some point) all of these important classic drum books regardless, because
they each provide additional unique and specialized information, that should
be included within every serious drummer’s repertoire.

Within many of the drum chart arrangements to follow, you will encounter instances where
additional repeat sign options are utilized, in order to help contain the length of certain charts.
Options such as: 1st and 2nd time endings, D.S. (Dal Segno) and Coda signs. Shown below
is one example depicting each of these options (please see the explanations below for details).
