2. Changes in person-
i. First person- changes according to subject of reporting verb.
ii. Second person- changes according to subject of reporting verb.
iii. Third person- No changes.

Example-

1.Simple Present

Direct- He said to me,”I never eat sweets.”

Indirect-He told me that he never ate sweets.

2.Present Continuous

Direct- Ram said to Shyam,”I am watching T.V.”

Indirect-Ram told Shyam that he was watching T.V.

3.Present perfect

Direct- Ram said to Shyam,” I have already cooked.”

Indirect- Ram told Shyam that he had already cooked.

4.Present perfect continuous

Direct- Sonu said to me, “ I have been reading for an hour.”

Indirect- Sonu told me that he had been reading for an hour.


5.Simple Past

Direct- She said to Ram, “ I went to Jaipur last week.”

Indirect- She told Ram that she had went to Jaipur the previous week.

6.Past Continuous

Direct- She said to me, “I was waiting for you.”

Indirect- She told me that she had been waiting for me.

Q. Sentences are given in direct speech. Change them into indirect speech.
