Analysis of Red Bull’s slogan “Red Bull Gives You Wings”

There are numerous advertising messages in the internet and social media posted by various

firms across the globe. Advertisers employ varied techniques to enhance the relay of

communication with the consumers of its products ( Yoon.,2018). While browsing the internet, I

came across a pop up of a humorous ad by the Red Bull energy drink brand using two cartoons

to enhance the stimulation of its products’ consumers. The humorous cartoons end the ad with

slogan “Red Bull Gives You Wings,” following a sip of the drink from the signature cartoon of

the brand.

The advert caught my attention because the message could be interpreted differently by different

consumers; it does not pass straightforward ad message instantly (Yoon., 2018). The use of humor

in the advert, to a significant extent, is effective in stimulating consumers’ interests towards the

product as an extraordinary source of energy. However, the ad created a sense of exaggeration

about the product, perhaps in an attempt to make the drink appear greater than its size. This

aspect may be interpreted to imply deception through the brand’s advertising on the internet and

other social and mass media channels.

The communication of the ad message should be standardized to ensure the consumers and

customers clearly understand, and create the intended perception of “energy” in the case of drink,

rather than the “wings to fly” exaggeration effects. Organizations should appropriately use

humor in ads in a manner than persuades and reminds, and importantly ensure the information is

interpreted correctly.
