THE PROBLEM AND ITS SCOPE

These days, a number of businesses have entered the industry to reach

out to consumers through various platforms. Online and Offline business

models are completely different in all aspects. The decision of whether to get into

a traditional offline business, a modern online business, or some combination of

the two, is one of the most important decisions of a business minded can

make.  Each has pros and cons that should be considered. Off course, money is
the major factor to start any type of business and it is also depending on which

type of business he/she have. Some businesses simply do not work as online

businesses and some businesses work a lot better as online businesses. In here

the obstacles lies on as to what business will suit to the consumers and as to

what strategies can be more effective considering the different kinds of

consumers to be pleased and entertained.

In this kind of business whether online or offline business, as always is a

huge challenge for somebody that would like to engage in business. The

decision of whether to get into a traditional offline business, a modern online

business, or some combination of the two, is one of the most important decisions

can make. There three factors which should always be a priority: It should be

personally satisfying, it should be profitable and ideally, it should not put you at

risk of being imprisoned. This is where the researchers are considering and have

an impact to themselves as they uncover this study.

As explained by Cross and Smith (1996), the key selection criteria for

consumers‟ purchases in the interactive age will be the marketer’s ability to

deliver pure and relevant information. This new environment has changed the

traditional marketing process into a more customer initiated and controlled

process. Traditional marketing is aimed at a passive audience while e-marketing

is targeting consumers that actively seek information and thus single-handedly

screen out the unwanted information (Kotler et al., 2005).

Online internationalization can take up two different contexts; digitalized

products or services, and products and services that are not digitalized. The first

one refers to the total value chain that can be created online. The second one

only refers to a small part of the value chain that is taking place online, such as

after-sales service. In this thesis online internationalization refers to products that

are not digitalized and thus only to the part of the value chain that is online.

Arenius, Sasi and Gabrielsson (2005) found that using the internet as a tool to

internationalization is an easy way to reach out into the world, and therefore can

reduce the liability of foreignness (LOF), i.e., costs the firm obtain in a foreign

market that the local firms would not obtain, and resource scarcity, which is the

resource availability and the uncertainty of getting access to these resources

which leads to a resource-conserving behavior.

Since searching for a meaningful instrument in transmitting ideas and

knowledge to the business owners is one of the valuable tasks that

entrepreneurs should do, the researchers developed this study and believed that

it their responsibility to share and impart ways to sustain the empty minds of

future entrepreneurs.

This study will be conducted during the second semester before the final

term of this school year. This is to investigate and analyze the effects of Online
and Offline businesses, its pros and cons in Purok 9, Sampaguita Street,

Poblacion, Kapatagan, Lanao del Norte.

Hence, the researchers are future entrepreneurs, decided to conduct this

study to find new and interesting way to cope with the difficulty of employing

business in their own market preference. They believe one aspect to be

considered in business is to have the ability to efficiently perform their business

practices is how to handle carefully their consumers. The researchers wanted to

impart an influential way to learn the means and ways of business that they could

apply to their future children and how these could bring meaning to the business

and behaviors of their consumers.

future of India‘s Online Market or Offline Market.

The researchers develop this study for they believe that it is their duty and

responsibility to give quality services to their consumers. They also believe that

entrepreneurship is not difficult if they never cease to explore new strategies

such as the tools that will be utilized

in this study. The researchers will be very much happy in finding out the results

and applied this study to future small businesses in starting their own venture.

Theoretical Framework

In this chapter, theories are presented to show theoretical foundation

of this study. The researchers anchored on these theories that support the idea
of meeting the purpose of Online and Offline Business: from the consumers’

perspective. These Theories are: Channel Evolution Theory by Noble, Griffith

and Weinberger (2005), Theory on Online Internationalization by Guillén (2002),

and Ansoff Matrix Theory by Ansoff (1957).

Over the years as consumers adopt new ways to shop through different

channels, businesses need to create synergies between their various sales

channels to be able to serve their consumers (Noble, Griffith and Weinberger,

2005). Businesses need to update their strategies from time to time as they move

from traditional channels to multichannel players, everything else in between and

finally to Omnichannel players in the present times. This adoption has created

efficiency and competitiveness, which is a must for both business and consumers

in present economic conditions.

Theory on Online Internationalization by Guillén (2002). According to the

research of Guillen (2002), online internationalization can take up to different

contexts; digitalized products or services; and products and services that are not

digitalized. The first one refers to the total value chain is taking place online, such

as after-sales service. In this thesis online internationalization refers to products

that are not digitalized and thus only to the part of the value chain that is online.

Ansoff Matrix Theory by Ansoff (1957). The matrix was developed by

applied mathematician and business manager, H. Igor Ansoff, and was published

in the Harvard Business Review in 1957. The Ansoff Matrix has helped many

marketers and executives better understand the risks inherent in growing their
business. Also known as the Product/Market Expansion Grid). Successful

leaders understand that if their organization is to grow in the long term, they can't

stick with a "business as usual" mindset, even when things are going well. They

need to find new ways to increase profits and reach new customers. he four

strategies of the Ansoff Matrix are: (1) Market Penetration: This focuses on

increasing sales of existing products to an existing market, (2) Product

Development: Focuses on introducing new products to an existing market, (3)

Market Development: This strategy focuses on entering a new market using

existing products.

Conceptual Framework

Online business versus Offline Business gives the idea what works best in

every establishments considering what kind of business his currently in. Offline

busines Purchase and sale of good via business outlet with one or few physical

locations whereas Online Business Purchase and sale of goods via a digital

platform such as an online website. Each are completely different in all aspects.

The Figure A as the schematic diagram shows the illustrations of the

relationships of the independent and dependent variables, and the output of the

study. First, the independent variables show the profile, offline and online

business. The researchers will come up with the concept that consumers’
perspective can affect the results depending on the responses of the

respondents. Lastly, the output centered to the strategic plan.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

This chapter provides important from the related literatures collected by the

Related Literatures

The different authors and writers had contributed enough and valid proofs

to give real results of this research. These serves as links between the readers

and the studies already done, talks about aspects that have been already

established or concluded by other authors and also give chances to appreciate

the evidences that have already been collected by previous researchers, and

projects the current research work in the proper perspective. The following are

Online Business: Consumer’s Perspective

According Davis (2012), estimated that 25 million online retailers sell

products over the internet. Each retailer tries to attract costumer’s and entice

them to complete a purchase.

In the case of online business, those involved are deliberately seeking to

leverage the flexibility of the online environment to provide novel value to their

customers, often through lower cost, enhanced choice, rapid fulfillment,

increased socialization or combinations of these (e.g., Zhang et al, 2014; Shin

2014). Online business therefore provides greater opportunities and challenges

for entrepreneurs and also provide compelling areas of study for scholars, for

exampling allowing the testing of the boundaries of entrepreneurial theory (Daniel

et al, 2014).

(Lee, J., Park, D. and Han, I. 2011), the different effects of online

consumer reviews on consumer’s purchase intentions depending on trust in

online shopping malls: An advertising perspective. Consumers are still reluctant

to shift in that same direction. For various consumers there are still concerns with

security and passing personal data over the Internet. There is a disparity

between the number of consumers who visit a site and the number of actual

purchases being made (Shim et al., 2001; Changchit,2006).

Local

In the 1980’s the globalization of the world accelerated, and rapidly and

early internationalization among firms could be observed (Cavusgil & Knight

2015). This development could be explained by technical advancements such as

the internet, which made it possible for persons with international experience to

do business almost anywhere in the world (Oviatte & McDougall, 1994). The

internet has provided exporters with new possibilities of approaching foreign

markets, and made it more efficient to handle inquiries and orders from

customers on an an international scale (Sinkovics, Sinkovics & Jeean 2013). The

development of the internet has restricted how e-commerce works, as new tool
for internalization, networking and marketing but also sales channel (Fischer &

Reuber, 2011).

Foreign

Offline Business: Consumer’s Perspective

Many marketing scholars have contributed to the literatures on deception

in marketing (Darke and Ritchie 2007), and on differences between consumer

experiences when making purchases online or offline (Wolfinbarger and Gilly

2003).

Research has consistently shown that consumer’s perceptions of

deceptive practices lead to important negative consequences for the retailer,

such as consumer’s complaints, dissatisfactions of deception on various

consumer consequences differing across channels (Diallo and Lambey-Checchin

2015).

Local

Iyer and Eastmen (2014) found that the population of senior who are more

literate, more knowledgeable and who are more aware of the technology and

those who have a positive behavior towards online shopping and internet are

more into online shopping. But the population of senior who are less aware of the
internet and the shopping sites are less involved in the shopping sites because

they do not have a positive attitude towards online shopping rather, they are

much more interested in offline shopping and the seniors who are more involved

in the internet uses more online sites for purchasing the goods over the internet.

Tabatabaei (2009) has explored the opinion of the consumer who are

purchasing online and the consumer who are purchasing from offline market. The

objective is to know why the traditional customer chooses to shop online and

what are the factor influence then to purchase online and what are the factor for

them to not use the sites for shopping.

Insights Learned from the Related Literature

Offline business either sells physical products in a store, or services that

are limited to a geographical location. Purchase and sale of good via business

outlet with one or few physical locations but customers are limited not like online

business it’s global. On offline business, consumer’s perspective is very

important because it’s helped their business to know what are the good service

and bad service, and also it helps them to evaluate their products and services

and at least they can prepare all the negative consequences.

Online business or e-business is kind of business or commercial

transaction that includes sharing information across internet. Online business

allows you to build your brand and gain the credibility that you need to attract

more customers. Consumer’s perspective helps online business to have an idea

about what customer’s needs and wants and also for marketers as they

understand the expectation of the consumers. It helps to understand what makes

a consumer to buy a product. Marketers can understand the likes and dislikes of

consumers and design base their marketing efforts based on findings

Moreover, consumer’s perspective is really important on online businesses

because it helps to evaluate their products and services.

Related Studies

Foreign
Online Shopping is a process where consumers directly buy goods,

services etc. from a seller without an intermediary service over the Internet

whereas Offline business strategies utilizes offline media channels to create

awareness of a company's products and services. Specifically, it progresses a

conceptual model that addresses consumer value perception for using the

Internet Shopping versus the Traditional Shopping. Observations of Online and

Offline buyers can be evaluated to see how value is constructed in both the

channels. It is to recognize what factors influence online and offline shopping

choice progression.

Online- to – offline (O2O) is one of the latest e-commerce business models

that uniquely combines the benefits of both online and offline modes to help

businesses achieve enhanced customer reach, larger market share and

extended marketing capabilities, among other improvements (Shang, Yang,

2015). It is defined as “e-commerce that combines searching and booking

products or services online and consumption in brick-and-mortar stores (Wan,

Chen, 2019). This means that customers (consumers) collect, consume or

experience the product or service at an offline facility of the online-to-offline

business (Wan, Chen, 2019).

Local

With the existence of the offline and online arena which companies can

sell their products and promote their brands, the carefully need to consider how
they devote their resources in both fields. Finding the right harmony between

online and offline resource allocation is referred to as the online-offline balance

(Wentrup, 2016). According to Chayapa (2011), the process of making decision

is very similar whether the consumer is offline or online but some major

differences are shopping environment and marketing communication.

Yaobin Lu (2011) focused on the factors that influence user’s intention to

transfer their usage from the offline to the online channel that offer similar

services. The study revealed that innovativeness in new technology and relative

benefit had positive effects on user’s intention to transfer usage. Moreover, the

findings of the study also indicated that internet experience moderates the

relationship between relative benefit and consumer’s intention to transfer usage

from offline to online services.

Insight Learned from the Related Studies

Today, as more and more brands leverage the emerging trends to their

advantage, internet based direct-to-consumer brands are opening physical retail

stores to expand and become more accessible to consumers. From the above

related studies, Online business and offline business consumer’s perspective is

very important for any kind of businesses because it helps the business to grow

more. Especially this year we suffer for the pandemic online businesses and

offline businesses helps the consumers to satisfy their needs and wants.
Offline businesses are solid and dependable, but have limited reach.

Online businesses have potentially massive reach, but they involve a typically

higher level of risk due to the greater competition. The comparatively low cost of

online business makes it an attractive option for start-ups.
