on March 09, 2021. This phenomenal up-

celebrated Women’s Day in recognition of the superior
contributions of the Women of Superior Family under
the visionary leadership of our iron lady, Dr. Sumaira
Rehman (Rector Superior University). Dr Sumaira, in
her efforts to accelerate a dynamic transformation
of our campus, serves as the perfect example of how
women leaders can change an institutions’ outlook for
the better. By encouraging an entrepreneurial mindset
in men and women alike, she has been the catalyst in
elevating our University’s brand image as an institute

of all its members. As a female academic head of a

Sumaira. The event organizers paid

AGENDA DRIVE AT SUPERIOR

The Government of Pakistan has launched a program called the National Youth Priority Agenda in
which the Government plans to identify and address the problems faced by the young people of
Pakistan. For this purpose the Government is collaborating with universities and engaging with the
student communities on campuses. The youth is given a seat at the table to decide where they need
to allocate the funds dedicated for the Youth development.
As part of this drive, multiple meetings were called with Superior University’s student bodies -
including ones with the SVLs, Club Leaders and Society members. The general SOPs were followed in
all of these meetings and students were invited to raise their problems and articulate their concerns.
A few issues which were raised in these meeting were:

1) Internet Issue
2) Career & Mental Health Counselling
3) Reforms in Fee Structures of Private Universities for middle- class families
4) Increased quotas for Sports based Students
5) Internship and Part time employment opportunities for youth
6) Uniform curriculum for private and public schools

These are few of the many suggestions that were gathered from the youth, to be
presented in front of the Prime Minister’s team on Youth Development.

In March 2021, a pioneer batch of student
reporters for the “Superior University Newsletter,
Magazine and various other publications” were
recruited. This recruitment drive commenced
under the supervision of Communication
Director Sir Haseeb Khan and Miss Tayyaba
Iftikhar of the SOMAC department.
All departments were invited to nominate
their brightest and most brilliant students
in consultation with the departmental Club
Advisors and English teachers. These reporters
were to represent their respective departments
in all Superior University publications. Ms.
Tayyaba Iftikhar and Ms. Kanza Khan interviewed
the students and evaluated them on their
networking skills, their work ethics and their
Language proficiency. The selected candidate
took an undertaking to commit to their job as
a student reporter with integrity and devotion.
Owing to the lockdown, an orientation with
the first batch of reporters was conducted to
welcome them and assign them their respective
duties as student reporters.The pioneer batch
of reporters were instructed to collect and draft
news stories on the retrospective, on-going
and up-coming activities at their respective
departments and the University at large. The
meeting ended with the reporters now in the
field, collecting and drafting stories from the
campus.

23rd March 1940 is celebrated to commemorate the Lahore

Resolution. This day holds a considerable significance
in Pakistan and reminds us of the sacrifices and struggle
undertaken by Muslims of the subcontinent to gain
independence from foreign occupation. Each year this
day is celebrated with great zeal and zest. Superior Music
Society celebrated this 23rd March with the release songs of
Mera Watan - a song celebrating Pakistan’s independence
with utmost patriotic fervour. This national anthem was
sung by Mr. Bilawal and Miss Ronica of Superior University
and the song was released on all social media platforms of
Superior Music Society.

On 23rd March, 2021, PAMA studio of the Superior University

in collaboration with Dramatic and Fashion society released
a lyrical tribute to celebrate Pakistan day. The music video
for the song also included a recitation of Quaid-e-Azam’s
statements and Allama Iqbal’s verses was also offered
by the members of Dramatic and Fashion societies. The
performers in the video sang for the love for their country
with heart contagious passion and heartwarming devotion.
The song was received with love and appreciation both by
the students of Superior University and the general public

Women’s Day, in recognition of Women’s contribution to
the world. Women all around the world raise their voices
against gender-based oppression and inequality. Superior
University celebrated this Women’s Day by unequivocally
pledging its allegiance to the cause of Women Empowerment
and Emancipation in a song released by a Collaboration
between Superior Dramatics and Music Societies. The
Music Video of the Women’s Day song; “Mujhe Urney Do”
featured the remarkable achievements of women of the
Superior Family along with other notable women of our

On 1st February 2021, Superior University welcomed the students back

to campuses after another spell of Covid-19 pandemic which forced the
campuses to shut down and academic activities to move to the virtual
spheres of the internet, began to plummet significantly. Though Superior
University successfully carried out all its curricular and cocurricular
commitments online during the lockdown, the distance learning was,
nonetheless, a dreary and alienating affair for most students. To shake
off the zoom fatigue and general weariness of distant learning, Superior
University arranged homecoming festivities for the students. Strict SOPs
were observed at the Welcome Back with a Bang event. Students rejoiced
in the warm welcome and energetic start to campus life.

In the freshman semester, students are not only encouraged to identify problems both in their approach to life and
the social systems designed to keep them behind the ever-changing globalized world but also are imbued with the
optimism and positive outlook to take charge and solve them. In order to overcome the identified challenges they
are inspired to seek support and solidarity from community building and teamwork. Trainers mediate teamwork
sessions to inculcate team spirit and leadership skills in the incoming students. Furthermore, to survive in the
competitive world of capital ventures and private enterprise, the students are inspired to develop an entrepreneur
mindset. The rigorous and dynamic Freshmen semester serves as the gateway to student success at Superior
University. Foreseeing the need of the market and to prepare our students for the 3U1m program, much-needed
modules like Design thinking and Building Social Capital were included in this year’s Freshman Semester.

The Active Citizen Program is designed to
help foster a sense of civic responsibility in
our students. Students engage in community
service and volunteer work to give back to their
community as responsible citizens of Pakistan.
This year’s ACP drive at the Department of
Pharmacy was organized between 22 February
2021 to 24 February 2021. The students were
encouraged to pitch creative, zero budget plans
on countering social issues. They presented their
plans in colorful visual displays such as mind
maps and flowcharts.

AMBASSADOR LAUNCH PROGRAM

Pharma students were engaged in the recruitment

drive for Ambassador Launch Program for
Chaudhry Muhammad Akram Teaching & Research
Hospital. CMA hospital has been serving humanity
since 2015 by providing free of cost treatments to
underprivileged people. It is a tertiary hospital that
offers the best possible treatment to every patient
that walks in! CMA is a trusted organization and
seeks to expand its outreach. CMS hospital has
invested in an FCPS consultant in the 24/7 emergency
room. To boost patient engagement and spread the
message of the hospital so it reaches the people in
urgent need of affordable healthcare, an Ambassador Launch program has been introduced. Under the
supervision of the manager of marketing of the CMA hospital, Mr. Noman Siddiqui, student volunteers from
Superior University are being engaged to facilitate the hospital’s outreach to the lower-income families. In
the launch ceremony, Dr. Irfan Ali Syed, CEO Healthcare, Superior group, awarded the tokens of recognition
to the student ambassador and explained what it entails to be a healthcare ambassador.

EARTH HOUR

Started by WWF and partners as a symbolic lights-
out event in Sydney in 2007, Earth Hour is now one
of the world’s major grassroots movements for the
environment. It is observed every year on the last
Saturday of March. Earth Hour engages millions of
people in more than 180 countries and territories,
switching off their lights to show support for our
planet.

Superior University celebrated Earth Hour to

educate the youth on the on-going climate crisis
and their role in overcoming it. By observing total
blackout, students were allowed to reflect on the

impending dangers of environmental degradation and its detrimental effects on our survival as a species.
Students were also encouraged to promote initiatives to help save our planet including plantation drives
and water conservation. The blackout at Earth Hour holds great symbolic significance and can leave a
lasting impression on Young minds.

On 13th of March, 2021, a One Day Workshop on

Clinical Pharmacy was organized in a tertiary care
hospital, to educate Pharm.D. students on the
various roles of a clinical pharmacist in industry
and the market. The speakers and mediators
were distinguished pharmacists, Dr. Mukarram,
Dr. Taimoor and Dr. Saadia Anum. This workshop
was designed to train the future pharmacist in
accordance with international standards and the
latest developments in the field of pharmacy.
The speakers highlighted the oft-neglected and
misconstrued role of pharmacists in Pakistan. Pharm.D. students got a chance to interact with the on-field
professional as well as patients to give them a demonstration of responsibilities of a designated clinical
pharmacist in a hospital. It was an interactive and immersive learning experience. Chairman Pharmacy
Department, Dr. Abubakar Munir also commented on the proceedings of the workshop and lauded its
alignment with the 4UIM program.

initiative of enlightening the people about
COVID-19; its background, symptoms, prevention
and precautions. Along with her colleagues, she has
written many research articles which are published in
different journals. As an established researcher, she
is leading research on COVID-19 and its medication.
Her research articles are laying the foundation for
the future researchers for researchers and students
who want to learn about Covid-19, especially in
Pakistani context. In all her research work, she has highlighted the crucial role of pharmacists in battling
the Covid-19 pandemic.

Owing to the COVID19 pandemic, Superior University
like all educational institutes around the world moved Rimsha Iqbal - BDS
to an online pedagogy. From lectures to tests, virtual
attendance to examinations, all academic affairs
moved to Superior’s LMS and UMS systems. It was an
arduous journey, but it transpired with systemic ease,
since Superior University already had functional and
highly sophisticated digital systems for curriculum
development, attendance and evaluation. With the
joined efforts of faculty and students, Azra Naheed
Dental College successfully managed to keep up with the
academic calendar amidst a pandemic!

Azra Naheed Dental College welcomed their first batch of
dental students in February. The year came to completion
in seemingly very little time and the dates for the first
professional exam were announced. The journey of
students throughout the year was exciting yet tiring and
made more so by a global pandemic. With the profs just
around the corner, the students burned the midnight oil
and were battle ready.

The Senior Lecturer and Head of Department, Ms.
Naushaba Azhar arranged a Study tour for Architecture
students for her class on “History of Architecture
Lahore’’. The destination for the tour was Walled City,
Lahore. Walking through the ancient monuments gave
students a chance to travel back in time to Lahore’s
rich historical past preserved in brick and mortar.

gifted middle school students at Superior University.
The students were given an opportunity to showcase

year students. The session commenced with inspiring remarks by Mr. Sagheer Ahmad. Over the course
of three hour, students were introduced to the various resources and on-campus career advancement

concerns about online education and examination as well as co-curriculars were addressed in a befitting

The main agenda of this meeting was to review the newly implemented policies in the department. The
latest developments in MS Department’s 3U1M program were also discussed briefly during the meeting. A

On 17th February, 2021, Dr Sana Ali of AHS department organized a seminar
on Women Empowerment. The seminar advocated for empowerment of
female students through academic excellence, professional training and
unapologetic celebration of the feminine aesthetic. The message of this
seminar is best summed up in the motto “Be a woman of YOUR desire”. It
emphasized that women are able to empower themselves by organizing
campaigns and seminars to voice their opinions and demand equal
rights and privileges as their male counterparts.The seminar received an
overpowering positive response from all female students and faculty of the
AHS department and beyond.

On 4th of March, 2021, AHS 1st Semester students completed their PBL
(problem-based learning) Projects which were showcased on campus post-
evaluation. Dr. Sidra Hasnain and Dr Uqba appreciated and facilitated the
display of Student’s work around campus.

In alignment with the activity based pedagogical vision of Superior University,

PBL projects are designed to help students develop practical understanding
of even the purely theoretical subjects in their respective fields. Medical
education at Superior University strives to foster a globally relevant and
skill effective approach to medical sciences despite an ever-changing
landscape in medicine. Problem Based Learning is considered as an
effective method of teaching and learning in Medical Schools with distinct
advantages over traditional methods. PBL leads to lifelong learning as
compared to just lectures which are considered as a “passive” learning.
Superior University’s AHS department is fully cognizant of the utility of
problem-based learning projects as a way to supplement traditional
education. PBL Projects enhance student engagement and motivation
by allowing them to direct their own learning.

EYE CAMP

On 14th of March, 2021, a free eye camp was
arranged by optometry students of AHS Department.
Our superheros arranged the camp in Toba tek
Singh where trained professionals facilitated eye
checkups, prescribed glasses and distributed eye-
drops and other medicines. They arranged camp
from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM in an area where most
people cannot afford going to professional doctors.
They crowd funded the resources necessary for a
medical camp. Eye camps play a vital role in reaching
the untreated poor blind people in rural areas. The
main objective of such camps is to create awareness
among the people which leads an intervention to
clear the backlog of avoidable blindness.

The Hospitality Department organized a theme party where students dressed up in costumes, traditional
cultural attires and Cosplay props and celebrated the quirkiness and uniqueness of their individual selves.
Some students showed up as their favorite fictional characters and others represented their indigenous

SVLs or Student Voice Leaders and Club members get to exercise their leadership and people management
skills. These leadership positions carry substantial career benefits for everyone involved. Every student of
University was engaged in the process to elect the student leaders that were to represent
them at all levels of administrative and academic affairs. Student voting rates were high this year which
reflect how well our university is fulfilling its civic missions of empowering students through democratic
representation.

Ekselent TV reached a new outreach peak at all
its digital channels, following a brief hiatus in
production due to the lockdown. Ekselent TV
reached 30,000 subscribers on Youtube, 11,000
followers on Facebook while maintaining 3:00 Min
Average view time, which marks as a milestone for
this new and student-centric TV network. Despite
challenges in production due to a global pandemic,
Ekselent TV continued to produce over 10 Videos
each month, during 2021, receiving 35,75,491 views
on its Youtube channel alone. The Click Rate on
Ekselent TV Video on Impressions is an impressive
5% and its TIK TOK account gained 2000 followers
in just 24 hours of signing up. This is a significant
reach in today’s fast paced world of social media
with reduced attention spans. As a student run and
student centric TV network, Ekselnet has produced
more than 50 well trained Broadcast and Production
professionals from SOMAC.

TRAINING SESSION ON SEVEN HABITS OF HIGHLY EFFECTIVE PEOPLE

A training session on Seven Habits of Highly Effective People for the Top Management of The Superior
Group was organized by the Human Resource Department. The session was designed to hone the
leadership skills and interpersonal effectiveness of people at top managerial posts at Superior Group.

HEC PROGRAM REVIEW PANEL

Every year the HEC reviews all universities to check their quality of work and measure whether they are
compatible with the ever-changing and globalized world. This year, too, Superior University had a visit
from the HEC Program Chair with the sole objective to regulate and approve the quality of education of
the university. Like each year, the HEC review went great and our University’s modern and up-to-date
pedagogical practices distinguished us from the pool of competitors.

The Registrar Office of Superior University welcomed the guests . The members of the office gave them a
brief introduction, presented them with a comprehensive presentation, and reviewed everything for them.

The Review Panel from HEC was quite impressed and appraised the meticulous documentation. They
appreciated the work of our board members for the Post-Graduate program. All in all, the HEC approved
the quality of education at Superior University and has also Ranked the university, giving it the status of
University after a long and arduous journey towards academic excellence.

FIGHTING THE PANDEMIC: AZRA NAHEED MEDICAL COLLEGE

The COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent
lockdown has been a challenging time for everyone.
As we continue to battle this crisis and as we come
to terms with the new normal, we have in our
minds and prayers the ones we lost during these
unprecedented times. A beloved family member
of DGS (Director general of Superior Azra Naheed
Hospital) was admitted at Azra Naheed Hospital
after testing Positive for Covid-19. She battled the
virus bravely and passed away on 24th of March
2021. A day before that, the sister-in-law of MS
(Medical Superintendent also passed away battling
Covid-19 and his brother was later admitted for
exposure to COVID 19 as well. May Allah grant the
deceased the highest rank in Jannah and give their
families the strength to bear this great loss.
We would like to dedicate our quarterly newsletter’s
first edition to the loving memory of the Superior
Family members and their loved ones that we lost
in 2021, some to CoronaVirus and others to the
natural course of life.
