ANSWER KEY
Q.1- The two blocks shown are originally at rest. Neglect
the masses of the pulleys and effect of friction in the
pulleys, and assuming that the friction between block A
and the incline are 𝝁𝒔 = 𝟎. 𝟐𝟓 and 𝝁𝒌 = 𝟎. 𝟐 determine
a) the acceleration of each block
b) the tension in the cable. (25 P, PÇ1, PÇ2)
Q-2.a- The motion of a particle is defined by the relation 𝒙 = 𝟐𝒕𝟑 − 𝟏𝟓𝒕𝟐 + 𝟐𝟒𝒕 + 𝟒 where x is
expressed in meters and t in seconds. Determine
a) when the velocity is zero,
b) the position and the total distance traveled when the acceleration is zero. (15 P, PÇ1, PÇ2)

Q.2.b- It is observed that the time for the ball to

strike the ground at B is 2.5 s. Determine the
speed 𝑽𝑨 and angle 𝜽𝑨 at which ball was
thrown. (10 P, PÇ1, PÇ2)
Q.3- The train car has a mass of 10 Mg and is
traveling at 5 m/s when it reaches A. If the
𝝁𝒌 = 𝟎. 𝟎𝟏, determine the compression of
each spring when the car is momentarily
brought to rest (Assume that the forces at
springs are equal). (25 P, PÇ1, PÇ2)
Q-4. Two identical ice-hockey disks are moving on a hockey pist at the
same speed of 3 m/s and in perpendicular directions when they strike
each other as shown. Assuming a coefficient of restitution e = 0.9,
determine the magnitude and direction of the velocity of each disk
after impact. (25 P, PÇ1, PÇ2)
