Background
Waffle Time is known by numerous people as the best and delightful distributor of
value waffles on a food cart, the outlet offers delightful and tasty flavors of waffles. It
has over 400 locations around the country and is continuously growing into new
regions and provinces. Waffle time is a proud member of the Philippine Franchise
Association (PFA). It gained its recognition as the Most Promising Filipino Franchise
of the Year last 2006. The first branch was successfully established in the province of
Iloilo, Philippines as a simple business venture. Waffle Time were very optimist that
the concept and brand is ready for expansion. They started franchising on March 2004,
Franchisees came in line to have their own franchised outlets that has brought
exponential growth in the number of branches we have nationwide. Waffle Time's
progressed with achievement and their clients duplicating, and from that moment on,
it continued to develop in the Philippines, transforming the country into one of the
greatest, prominent, and most importantly, tasty waffle marks in the world. Waffle
Time is truly an iconic brand that reaches to peoples satisfaction.

Statement of the Problem


Waffle Time added new locations while retaining existing ones, where it is common
in retail operations and can be a defensive strategy designed to maintain a market
share or to prevent their competitors from entering the market. Considering Waffle
Time operates in several locations, the business should take a more formal approach
to location selection. They must select which criteria to apply when considering
various locations in order to discover essential factors such as the location of markets
or raw supplies.

Waffle time must be at the strategic level, where flexibility is required to deal with
changes in the environment that may entail a shift in emphasis or direction, and
tactical levels, where the company's broad intentions must be translated into viable
plans, and management must also apply new production methods as needed in the
organizational tactics, and operational in the sense of ensuring that employees execute
established procedures and do not fall short from them. Waffle time should also
consider strategic analysis, which includes service audit, in which the organization's
services should seriously evaluate the current delivery of services through a
comprehensive review of existing policy in terms of corporate guidelines and
standards. Resources audit, that should focus on employees' abilities, the potential of
providers or suppliers, and the status of all procedures and technology.

Waffle Time must address people and systems while implementing a strategy in order
to increase their personnel's abilities and competency through the use of effective
training. Communication to execute good interaction among their workers, and last,
the business should develop resource planning to guarantee progress and control.

Another responsibilities of Waffle Time Inc. is to provide general policy on health


and safety not only it's personnel but also to who are directly involved in the day-to-
day management of the facility. Waffle Time must emphasize on how work may be
provided in a safe and risk-free sort of way, as well as minimizing hazard procedures
for for both personnel and property. It is necessary for a company to employ a
competent personnel to supervise safety rules and regulations and ensure that the
business conforms with requirements throughout limited working hours.

Summary of Findings
Waffle Time Inc. is the first ever purveyor of value waffles on a food cart and now
boasts of over 400 outlets nationwide. A franchise firm that seeks to deliver
inexpensive snacks with a broad selection of waffle flavors that are suitable for all
ages and circumstances. To attain effective and efficient production system, Waffle
Time considers human resources to be an important issue that can effect the firm's
operations. To ensure that the correct operation procedure is carried out successively
with production, the company will appoint competent individuals who are eager to
undertake training and development. Waffle Time checks its everyday operations and
outgoing performance and takes appropriate actions on the problems that arise to keep
the smooth sailing day-to-day business operations.
People are looking for inexpensive healthy snacks that will fulfill their needs while
not losing their diet. Waffle Time is viewed as a high business as a result to its
convenient service, and unique varieties of waffles which has cab-protein features,
which provide a nutritious vibe to its consumers. It is also incredibly easy to purchase;
clients, particularly students and other employees, like ready-to-eat snacks.

Alternative Courses of Actions


Total productive maintenance (TPM) is one of the maintenance methods that Waffle
Time must employ in their business. This method will make use of the talents of all
personnel and aims to include maintenance into the day-to-day operations of a facility.
Using this strategy will help the company to experience fewer breakdowns, safer
workplace and might as well improve overall performance, but it is also expensive
and every company cannot afford to implement it in their workplace.

Waffle Time should also consider Planned Preventive Maintenance as a maintenance


method, it is a proactive approach to maintenance in which maintenance work is
scheduled to take place regularly and consequently documented once it has taken
place. This method will help minimize any repair costs incurred, ensures health and
safety compliance, and adds value to preserve and enhance property assets, it brings
about great financial advantages. But the disadvantage is when initially starting a
preventative maintenance plan, it will cost you more to regularly maintain equipment
and the building, than it would be if you waited for things to simply break down.

Recommendation
Based on the the given methods in Alternative Courses of action, the Planned
Preventive Maintenance method is the most effective strategy for Waffle Time. Even
if it might be costly at start, this strategy would still be effecient especially for this
business, because over time, you will see that less money is being spend because you
will not have to replace equipment as much, as well as dealing with last minute break
downs. To this point, Planned Preventive Maintenance will create a safer working
environment for employees and would avoid unscheduled or unplanned breakdowns,
where reactive maintenance is used.
Management Lesson Learned
Food stalls may be a profitable business or investment opportunity in the Philippines,
since street foods and stalls has seen a surge of popularity. People are constantly
interested in the ease of purchasing, as well as the quality and the varieties of goods
they intend to purchase. Operating this type of business may include certain risks,
which is why it is essential to consider where you will locate your firm and which
market you will target to sell your goods.
