Future forms

1. Will
a. Use: we use will to talk about:
i. Things we expect or predict will happen (with no evident clues):
More people will buy electrical cars in the future.
ii. Things which are not certain (we have no evidence):
It probably won’t be cold tomorrow.
iii. Future facts (real):
My app says the sun will rise at five o’clock tomorrow morning.
iv. Quick decisions about what to do next (without previous planning):
Someone is knocking. I will open the door.
v. An offer or a promise:
Don’t worry, I won’t be late.
b. Form: will/won’t + infinitive (without to)
i. Affirmative: I/you/he/she/it/we/you/they will play
ii. Negative: I/you/he/she/it/we/you/they won’t play
iii. Interrogative: Will I/you/he/she/it/we/you/they play?
2. Be going to
a. Use: we use be going to to talk about:
i. Things we predict based on evidence we can see or something we
think is certain to happen:
I am going to sneeze.
ii. Future plans and things we intend to do (with previous planning):
I am going to watch the match on TV tonight.
b. Form: be (present simple) + going to + infinitive (without to)

3. Present continuous
a. Use: we use the present continue as future to talk about:
i. Arrangements or plans which have already been made:
I am starting a new course tomorrow.
b. Form: be (present simple) + verb in gerund (-ing)

You/we/they are (‘re) playing are not (aren’t) playing

4. Present simple
c. Use: we use the present simple as future to talk about:
i. Events in the future that are certain because they are facts:
The sun rises at 6 am tomorrow morning.
ii. Fixed or planned events:
The lesson ends at 7.30 this evening.
d. Form: present simple
