maybe; inclusion in the priority listing of the IPAS; and classification under the NIPAS classification system

Theoretical Framework

This research report was anchored in Modernization Theory (MT).

Modernization Theory (MT) is one of the most popular developmental paradigms to have gained
admiration from the late 19th till the mid-20th century. This theory is thought to be an extension of
another theory called growth theory, which is grounded in Keynesian economics. For justification of MT,
the theorists used it as a key social indicator for economic development, which trickles down to the
grassroots level of society in the form of plentiful economic and employment prospects.
In addition, it means that Barangay Alibijaban has many tourist spots that
1

they attracted. The island was considered as one of the smallest populations in San Andres, Quezon
because of its household number. The people who live in island has have two kinds of languages, which
are the Bisaya and Tagalog languages.
Globally, tourism gives huge contributions on the economic development of a particular place. It
provides many benefits for every resident that everyone allowed to obtain their wanted job when it
comes to the tourism.

Chapter III
METHODOLOGY
The chapter describes the research methodology employed in this study in detail. It presents
discussions on various types of research to find an appropriate approach for the present research work.
This chapter considers the study design, methods, procedures and the instrument utilized to collect the
data. Subsequently, the chapter informs how the collected and categorized data was analyzed.

Research Design

The researchers have chosen the survey method as the research design. They give self made survey
questionnaire to every respondents as method to gather data.

Research Locale

This study was conducted in Pulo 1, Barangay Alibijaban, San Andres Quezon.

Population and Sampling

In this study has three classification of respondents namely; Negosyante, Bangkero and Residents.
There were fiften (15) respondents in each classification of reslondents. These forty-five (45) respondents
were chosen through purposive sampling.
1

The study utilized questionnaire which was developed by the researchers. It was constructed based
on identifying the contribution of Alibijaban Island to the economic development of San Andres. Part 1 of
the study dealt with the demographic profile of the respondents. While Part II focused on the contribution
of Alibijaban Island on economic development of San Andres Quezon were included the Tourism, Marine
food supply and Business that the islands contribute. For validation of the research instrument,
questionnaire was checked first by the research teacher for its comments and suggests in order to
improve its statement structure and appropriateness to the target respondents. It was to testing to 10
non-participants in the study from the businessman and boatman at the port of San Andres, Quezon to
examine the validity and reliability of content and to further improve instrument.
Moreover, to ensure comprehensibility, the perceived unfamiliar words were modified and complex
sentence structures were rephrased and made concise.

Data Gathering Procedure

In the conduct of the study, the researchers followed the necessary protocols. A letter request
noted by the research adviser was drafted first. A letter of request was given to the principals of the
schools. The data gathered were sorted and presented in tables, analyzed and interpreted using
appropriate statistical tools. For another ethical consideration, the anonymity of the
1

respondents was highly observed and responses were treated with utmost confidentiality to protect the
interest and credibility of the schools.

Statistical Treatment

For an apparent interpretation of the data that will be gathered from the survey questionnaire,
the researchers used the following statistical procedures.

1. Frequency percentage. This was used in describing the demographic profile of the respondents
in terms of classification of respondents which includes; businessman, boatman and residents.
The formula for computing frequency percentage is as follows:
P=F/N (100)

Where: P = is the computed percent F =

represent the frequency of each
N = for the total number of the respondents

100 = constant multiplier to changes the decimal into percentage value.

2. Weight arithmetic mean. This was used to measure the range by which the respondents assess
the given research variables.
WM = 4(F) + 3(F) + 2(F) +1(F)
N
Where: WM = weighted mean

F = number of answers

N = number of respondents
1

The following scales were used on interpreting the computed weighted mean:

Point Range Description Code

4 3.25 – 4. 00 Strongly Agree SA
3 2.50 – 3.24 Agree A
2 1.75 – 2.49 Disagree D
1 1.00 – 1.74 Strongly Disagree SD

Ethical Considerations

In the conduct of the study, the researchers followed the necessary protocols. Respondents were
not forced to answer the survey questionnaires. Likewise, researchers secured the permits and approvals
of officials. References were cited accordingly and properly.
