RBI asks NBFCs to implement core financial services solution by September 2025

 RBI recently asked certain class of Non-Banking Financial Companies (NBFC) to mandatorily
implement ‘Core Financial Services Solution (CFSS)’ by September 30, 2025 in order to provide
seamless customer interface as well as have a centralised data base.
 CFSS is akin to the Core Banking Solution (CBS) adopted by banks.

RBI proposes to assess impact of its financial literacy campaigns; invites request for proposal

 RBI has proposed to assess the impact of the multi-media awareness campaigns launched by it to
promote financial literacy and also safe banking practices.
 The RBI runs the ‘RBI Kehta Hai’ campaign to educate and empower the public about banking
regulations, and also to make them aware of good and safe banking practices.
 It was a multi-media multi-lingual campaign using SMSes, print, television channels, radio, hoardings,

 Inviting the request for proposal (RFP) from certain shortlisted entities, the RBI said they would be
required to undertake outcome and impact assessment of its multilingual, pan-India public awareness
campaigns.
 The RBI campaigns are in 14 languages — Assamese, Bengali, English, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada,
Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Sindhi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu with more focus on regional
languages.

RBI announces dollar/rupee two-year sell buy swap auction

 RBI recently announced a US Dollar/Rupee two-year sell-buy swap auction with a view to elongating
the maturity profile of its forward book and smoothening the receivables relating to forwarding assets.
 It will undertake a sell/buy swap auction of $5 billion, which will enable access to a wider set of market
participants.
 RBI will conduct a spot sale to sell USD 5 billion to banks in exchange of rupees, through this auction
on March 10, 2022.
 On March 11, 2024, it will make a forward purchase from banks in two years.
 The forward purchase will help in reducing RBI’s current foreign exchange reserves and increase its
two-year forward USD purchases.

Under the swap, a bank would sell US dollars to the RBI. It will simultaneously agree to buy the same amount of
US dollars at the end of the swap period. The swap transaction is materially different from OMOs (open market
operations). OMOs refer to a central bank's buying and selling of government securities in the 'open market'. On
the other hand, in swap transaction, only authorised dealers, mainly banks, will be allowed to deposit US dollars in
exchange for rupees.

 The caution against sRide App, stating that this firm was operating a semi-closed pre-paid instrument,
without receiving authorization from the central bank, under Payment and Settlement Systems Act,
2007.

SEBI extends deadline to implement swing pricing mechanism for MFs

 SEBI recently extended the deadline to May 1 for implementation of swing pricing mechanism, for
mutual fund schemes, aimed at discouraging large investors from sudden redemptions.
 The new framework, aimed at ensuring fairness in treatment of entering, exiting and existing investors in
mutual fund schemes, particularly during market dislocation, was to be applicable from March 1.
 Based on the request received from Amfi, it has been decided to extend the implementation date of the
provisions of swing pricing mechanism to May 1, 2022.

SEBI notifies amendment to depositories, participants norms

 SEBI has notified amendments to the depositories and participants norms, hiking the net worth
requirement for trading members.
 As per the revised norms, stock brokers are required to have a net worth of Rs 3 crore, within one year
of the date of notification.
 This net worth shall be increased to Rs 5 crore within two years of the date of notification.

 It also provides that a self-clearing member fulfilling the net worth requirements as provided under the
Securities and Exchange Board of India (Stock Brokers) Regulations, 1992, will also be eligible to
register as a depository participant.

Paytm Payments Bank becomes official acquiring partner for e-RUPI vouchers

 Paytm Payments Bank Limited recently declared that it is an official acquiring partner for ‘e-RUPI
vouchers.’
 e-RUPI is a government initiative and a cashless prepaid voucher that beneficiaries can present via
SMS or QR Code.
 Paytm’s merchant partners can then scan, enter the amount to be paid and receive the payment directly
in their bank account. This will benefit beneficiaries (users), even those who do not have access to
formal banking services or smartphones to avail the convenience of digital payments.

India and France sign Roadmap on Blue Economy

 India and France have signed an agreement to enhance their bilateral exchanges on the blue economy
and ocean governance.
 The agreement on ‘Roadmap on Blue Economy and Ocean Governance’ was signed between
India’s External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar’s and his French counterpart Jean-Yves Le Drian.
 It will help to explore the potential for collaboration in marine science research for a better understanding

India Ratings decrease GDP growth at 8.6% for FY22

 India Ratings has revised downwards its GDP growth forecast for 2021-22 to 8.6 per cent from the
consensus 9.2 per cent projected earlier.

 Moody’s has revised India’s economic growth estimates in the Current Year 2022 upwards to 9.5 per
cent from 7 per cent on stronger than expected recovery after a lockdown in 2020 and Covid-19’s Delta

 IBM has launched a cybersecurity hub in Bengaluru to address the concerns of its clients across the

Bharti Airtel to acquire 4.7% stake of Vodafone in Indus Towers

 Bharti Airtel will acquire an additional 4.7 per cent stake in Indus Towers from Vodafone Group.
 The two companies signed an agreement on the condition that Vodafone will use the proceeds to invest

ASCI releases guidelines for crypto ads: Disclaimer and advertiser details must

 The Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) has released new guidelines for advertisers
publishing ads about virtual digital assets (VDA) including cryptocurrencies and non-fungible tokens
(NFTs).
 The guidelines will be applicable to all advertisements released or published after 1 April 2022.
 Earlier advertisements shouldn’t appear in the public domain after 15 April 2022 unless they comply with
the new guidelines.
 In accordance with the new guidelines, all advertisements for VDA products, VDA exchanges or
featuring VDAs should carry a disclaimer that says, “Crypto products and NFTs are unregulated and can
be highly risky. There may be no regulatory recourse for any loss from such transactions”.

Ahead of mega IPO, Cabinet gives nod to 20% FDI limit in LIC

 Ahead of the mega initial public offer of the Life Insurance Corporation in mid-March, the Union
Cabinet recently approved a 20% foreign direct investment limit under automatic route in LIC, an
enabling provision aimed at attracting long-term foreign investors to the issue.
 According to the amendment to the LIC Act through the Finance Act 2021, the government could
dilute only a 25% stake in the insurer in the first five years and the government equity won’t fall below
51% at any point in time. So, 49% public float in LIC is a long way to go as well as full utilisation of the
FDI limit.

India to set up first IIT abroad in UAE under newly inked trade deal

 The government of India will be setting up an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in the United Arab
Emirates (UAE) as a part of the India-UAE trade deal.
 This will be the first time an IIT would be established outside of the country.
 India currently has 23 IITs, which are considered to be premiere institutes and offer a range of degrees
starting from B.Tech to doctoral programmes.
 Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal held a bilateral meeting and signed the
Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement with the UAE delegation led by Minister of Economy,
Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri & Minister of State for Foreign Trade Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi.

 The deal highlighted that the two nations will also set up an India–UAE cultural council to facilitate
and promote cultural projects, cross-cultural exchanges, exhibitions, among others.
 Both India and the UAE have also agreed to support each other’s clean energy missions and set up a
joint hydrogen task force to scale up technologies, primarily that of producing green hydrogen.

PM CARES For Children Scheme Extended Up To 28 February

 The Ministry of Women and Child Development said that the centre has extended the PM Cares for
Children Scheme till 28 February 2022, amid the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic.
 Earlier the scheme was valid till 31 December 2021.
 All eligible children can now be enrolled till 28 February 2022 to avail of benefits of the PM CARES for
children scheme.
 The scheme covers all children who have lost: i) Both parents or ii) Surviving parent or iii) legal
guardian/adoptive parents/single adoptive parent due to COVID 19 pandemic, starting from March 11,
2020, the date on which WHO has declared and characterized COVID-19 as pandemic till February 28,
2022.

IIT Roorkee launches KISAN mobile to send agricultural advises

 IIT Roorkee organised a regional farmers’ awareness program under Gramin Krishi Mausam Sewa
(GKMS) project and in continuation of the series of ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’. Farmers from Haridwar,
Dehradun, and Pauri Garhwal districts participated in the program.
 Farmers and other stakeholders were sensitized about the Agromet Advisory Services jointly provided
by the AMFU Roorkee and India Meteorological Department (IMD).

mobile phones. Farmers can now easily access these bulletins on their mobile phones through the app.
 The special feature of the 'KISAN' App is that the weather forecast and advisory bulletin will be

 Union Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Giriraj Singh launched Ombudsperson App
for Mahatma Gandhi NREGA.
 Ombudsperson App is a step towards e-governance, this will be helpful in ensuring transparency and
accountability.
 Ministry of Rural Development has developed an Ombudsperson App for smooth reporting and
categorization of grievances by Ombudsperson based on complaints he received from various sources
viz. physical, digital and mass media, related to the implementation of the Mahatma Gandhi NREG
Scheme in the States/UTs.
 At present, the reporting of complaints, passing awards and disposal of complaints are in physical form.
For the smooth reporting of complaints, passing awards and quick disposal of complaints
Ombudsperson App is developed. This will strengthen Ombudsperson in the discharge of her/his duty in
a hassle-free manner.
 The app will enable easy tracking and timely passing of awards by Ombudsperson on each case as per
the guidelines. Ombudsperson can also easily upload the quarterly and annual reports on the website
through the app.

establishment of MSME-Technology Centre with an outlay of Rs. 200 Crore, in Sindhudurg.
 The MSME-Technology Centre will provide the best of technology, incubation as well as advisory
support to the industry, especially MSMEs, to enhance their competitiveness and provide skilling
services for the employed and unemployed youth of the area to enhance their employability.

promotion of Cluster development for Khadi. The scheme organizes traditional industries and artisans into
clusters to make them competitive and provide support for their long term sustainability. It also aims to
provide sustained employment for traditional Industry artisans and rural entrepreneurs.

Ministry of Education launches Bhasha Certifiate Selfie campaign

 Ministry of Education launched a campaign ‘Bhasha Certificate Selfie to encourage cultural


diversity and promote mulitlinguism and to foster the spirit of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat.
 Bhasha Certificate Selfie initiative aims to promote Bhasha Sangam mobile app, developed by Ministry
of Education and MyGov India.
 Using the app, people can learn 100+ sentences of daily use in as many as 22 scheduled Indian
languages.
 The initiative, under the aegis of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat will aim to ensure that people acquire

basic conversational skills in Indian languages. To achieve this, a target of 75 lakh people acquiring
basic conversational skills has been set.
 The ‘Bhasha Certificate Selfie’ initiative is encouraging people to upload their selfie with the certificate
from their social media accounts using the hashtag #BhashaCertificateSelfie.
 To receive a certificate authorized by Ministry of Education, a user needs to download the mobile app,
available in both Android and iOS versions, select any language from 22 scheduled Indian languages,
finish all the levels, give a test and earn a certificate.

Centre sets up high level task force to study impact of sanctions against Russia

 The Centre has constituted a high-level inter-ministerial task force of senior officials to look at
possible implications on India of the fresh economic sanctions announced against Russia by the
US, the EU, and others.
 The task force may also put in place a strategy to deal with it.
 The taskforce comprises Secretaries and other senior officials from across Ministries and Departments
such as External Affairs, Defence, Finance, Home, Commerce & Industry and Petroleum and Natural
Gas.
 Russia is India’s 26th largest trade partner, with exports in 2020-21 valued at $ 2.6 billion and imports at
$ 5.4 billion.

 Supported by Nordic Innovation, an organisation promoted by the governments of Nordic countries, and
executed by Fortum Charge & Drive, it will be the first BYPL operated and managed Smart EV
Charging Station.
 This smart managed EV charging station, which can charge five EVs simultaneously, is located at
BYPL’s 11 kV Sub Station building in Mayur Vihar Extension Phase-1.
 Unlike conventional EV charging stations, this ‘smart managed EV charging station’ can be integrated
with BYPL’s SCADA system -- which acts as the nerve system of the discom -- and can be managed
remotely.
 It is also Demand Response (DR) compatible, which is an important demand side management (DSM)
tool for utilities the world-over to flatten the load curve and ‘peak shaving’ of the electricity load during
certain times.

100 Districts In The Country Become ‘Har Ghar Jal’ Under Jal Jeevan Mission

 Jal Jeevan Mission achieved milestone of providing tap water to every home of 100 districts in the
country.
 Chamba, an Aspirational District of Himachal Pradesh has become the 100th ‘Har Ghar Jal’ District.
 Chamba is the fifth aspirational district to become ‘Har Ghar Jal’. Other four Har Ghar Jal Aspirational
districts are: Bhadradri Kothgudem, Jayashankar Bhupalpalli, Komram Bheem Asifabad (all in
Telangana) and Mewat in Haryana.
 To translate Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of providing clean tap water to every home in the
country by 2024, in a short span of two and half years and despite COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown
disruptions, Jal Jeevan Mission, has provided tap water supply to more than 5.78 Crore rural
households. As a result, today 100 districts in the country are enjoying benefits of clean tap water supply
and Jal Jeevan Mission is on track to fulfill the Government’s resolve to provide tap water supply to

 Union Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Giriraj Singh released Rural
Connectivity GIS Data in Public Domain.
 This includes GIS data for 800,000+ rural facilities as points, 1 Million+ habitations and 25,00,000+ km
of rural roads which have been collected and digitised using the GIS platform developed for the PMGSY
scheme.
 NRIDA, the nodal implementation agency of the PMGSY scheme signed MoU with 3 renowned GIS
Firms ESRI India, MapmyIndia, DataMeet & collaborated with Gati Shakti for releasing the Rural
Connectivity GIS Data in Public Domain.
 The data is released under Government of India’s Open Data License and is available free of cost for
public consumption.
 The rural infrastructure GIS data will help in bridging the gap between urban and rural India and
transform India into Atmanirbhar Bharat.

Jio’s new India-Asia-Xpress undersea internet cable to connect India and Maldives

 Reliance Jio announced that it will be landing a multi-terabit India-Asia-Xpress (IAX) undersea cable
system in Hulhumale, Maldives to directly connect the country to major internet hubs in India and
Singapore.

Rafael’s ‘C-Dome’ Completes 1st Interceptions From Israeli Navy’s Sa’ar 6 Corvettes

 The Israel Missile Defence Organization (IMDO), in the Directorate for Defence R&D of the Israel
Ministry of Defence, the IDF and Rafael Advanced Defense Systems have completed a successful
series of live-fire tests of the ‘C-Dome’ system – an advanced naval configuration of the Iron Dome
defence system.
 The ‘C-Dome’ was operated for the first time aboard the Israeli Naval Ship (INS) Sa’ar 6 ‘Magen’
corvette against multiple advanced threats.
 The test campaign consisted of a number of scenarios simulating advanced threats, including rockets,
cruise missiles and UAVs. The ‘C-Dome’ is capable of successfully intercepting such threats.
 The ‘C-Dome’ onboard missile defence system is based on the Iron Dome defence system developed
by Rafael, with the command-and-control system developed by mPrest. ‘C-Dome’ interfaces with the
Saar 6’s ‘Adir’ radar, developed by IAI’s ELTA division.

Russia Declares War On Ukraine

 Russia has sparked one of the biggest security crises in Europe since World War II by invading
Ukraine, with barrages of missiles and artillery accompanying troops as they entered the country from
multiple directions.
 Russian President Vlamidir Putin has signed the presidential decree recognising the independence of
separatist regions of Donetsk and Luhansk in eastern Ukraine.

Why does Russia want Ukraine: Putin, a former KGB agent who was stationed in East Germany, has
said he regrets the Soviet Union's demise and made clear that he does not accept Europe's post-Cold War
security architecture. He has offered a litany of complaints about the security risks to Russia of further
NATO expansion and made the case that Ukraine was completely created out of land from the former
Russian empire during the Soviet Union's formation. The implication was that he sees himself as on a
historical mission to undo wrongs inflicted by Lenin's Bolsheviks.
Ahead of the offensive, Putin declared in a nationally televised address that action was necessary after the
U.S. and its allies crossed Russia's red lines by expanding NATO. The Russian leader says the goal of the
operation was the demilitarization of Ukraine.

Assam first state to launch mobile app for navigation on rivers at night

 The first night navigation mobile application in rivers in the country was launched in Assam for
ferries plying on Brahmaputra river.
 The inaugural night journey of an Inland Water Transport ferry fitted with the system sailed between
Guwahati and North Guwahati and completed the return journey also in about an hour.
 The night navigation mobile application was developed by the transport department in association
with K Raju, the principal scientist of IIT Madras and will survey the draft of the rivers.

PM Modi inaugurated ‘Kisan Drone Yatra’ and flagged off 100 ‘Kisan Drones’

 Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently inaugurated the ‘Kisan Drone Yatra’.
 It is an initiative by Garuda Aerospace Pvt Ltd.
 He also flagged off 100 ‘Kisan Drones’ in various cities and towns across India to spray pesticides in
farms across the states of India.
 The 100 Kisan Drones were set off in 100 villages in 16 states across India which includes Uttar
Pradesh, Punjab and Goa.
 The farmers can use the drones to transport their produce such as fruits, vegetables and flowers to
markets in a minimal time and boost their income.

monetary needs of landholding farmers. The monetary benefit of Rs 6000/- per year in three equal
instalments, every four-month, 3 times a year, it is transferred into the bank accounts of the families of
the farmers across the country through Direct Benefit Transfer or DBT mode.

IAF to participate in multi-nation air exercise 'Ex Cobra Warrior 22' in UK

 Indian Air Force will participate in a multi-nation air exercise Ex Cobra Warrior 22 at Waddington in
United Kingdom from 6th to 27th of March.
 IAF Light Combat Aircraft LCA Tejas will participate in the exercise along with fighter aircraft of UK and
other leading Air Forces.
 The exercise is aimed at providing operational exposure and sharing best practices amongst the
participating Air Forces, thereby enhancing combat capability and forging bonds of friendship. This will
be a platform for LCA Tejas to demonstrate its maneuverability and operational capability.
 Five Tejas aircraft will fly to the United Kingdom. IAF C-17 aircraft will provide the necessary transport
support for induction and de-induction.

Boeing delivers 12th P-8I maritime patrol aircraft to Indian Navy

 Boeing delivered the 12th P-8I maritime patrol aircraft to India making it the fourth of four additional
aircraft delivered under the options contract signed by the Ministry of Defence in 2016.
 The P-8I is an integral part of the Indian Navy’s fleet and has surpassed 35,000 flight hours since it was
inducted in 2013. The aircraft, with its exceptional maritime surveillance and reconnaissance
capabilities, versatility and operational readiness, has proven to be an important asset to the Navy. In
addition to unmatched maritime reconnaissance and anti-submarine warfare capabilities, the P-8I has
been deployed to assist during disaster relief and humanitarian missions.

Joint Military Exercise “Ex Dharma Guardian 2022”

 A joint military exercise, “EX DHARMA GUARDIAN-2022”, between India and Japan will be conducted
at Foreign Training Node, Belagavi (Belgaum, Karnataka) from 27 February 2022 to 10 March 2022.
 Exercise DHARMA GUARDIAN-2022 is an annual training event which is being conducted in India since
2018.
 Notably, in the series of military training exercises undertaken by India with various countries, Exercise
DHARMA GUARDIAN with Japan is crucial and significant in terms of security challenges faced by both
nations in the backdrop of current global situation. The scope of this exercise covers platoon level joint
training on operations in jungle and semi urban/urban terrain.
 Combat experienced troops of the 15th Battalion the MARATHA LIGHT INFANTRY Regiment of the
Indian Army and 30th Infantry Regiment of Japanese Ground Self Defence Forces (JGSDF) are
participating in the exercise this year to share experiences gained during operations in order to enhance
inter-operability in planning & execution of various operations in jungle & semi urban/ urban terrain.
 The Japanese Ground Self Defence Forces contingent arrived at the exercise location.

 The latest edition of Indian Navy's multilateral exercise MILAN 2022 has commenced in
Visakhapatnam.
 Milan 2022 is being conducted over a duration of 9 days in two phases with the harbour phase
scheduled from 25th to 28 February and Sea Phase from 01 to 04 March.
 The RK Beach in Visakhapatnam is all designed for the mega event.
 The theme of the MILAN, 2022 exercise in ‘Camaraderie - Cohesion- Collaboration’ which aims to
project India as a responsible maritime power to the World at large.
 The aim of the exercise is to hone operational skills, imbibe best practices and procedures, and enable
doctrinal learning in the maritime domain, through professional interaction between friendly navies.
 It is a biennial multilateral naval exercise incepted by the Indian Navy in 1995.

Three More Rafale Fighter Jets Arrive In India From France

 Three more Rafale fighter aircraft arrived in India after taking off from France.
 The ₹ 60,000 crore contract between India and France for 36 Rafale fighter jets is now nearing
completion as only one aircraft is left to be inducted into the Indian Air Force (IAF)
 India had ordered 36 Rafale fighter aircraft from France in September 2016. The addition of Rafale is
seen as a major capability booster for the IAF.
 The twin-engine Rafale jets are capable of carrying out a variety of missions: ground and sea attack, air
defence and air superiority, reconnaissance and nuclear strike deterrence.

 Chanu who was competing in the 55 kg category for the very first time lifted 191 kg (86kg+105kg) to
stand on top of the podium in an uncompetitive field.
 The CWG Qualification event would allow the top 8 lifters in each category to qualify for the
Commonwealth Games in Birmingham out of which Chanu has assured a spot not only in the 49 kg
category but also in the 55 kg category for India.
 The 27-year-old Chanu qualified for the Birmingham 2022 in the 49kg weight category on the basis of
her Commonwealth rankings.
