MODULE DESCRIPTION
• Module objective This module is designed to introduce the 6050 Hydraulic Mining Shovel operator’s
station. The location of the operator controls, switches, and cab mounted
components will be detailed in this module. lab exercise will be used for skill
development and knowledge check.
• Competency statement At the completion of this module, participants will be required to successfully
complete a summative group assessment by answering five oral questions at an
accuracy rate of at least 80%.
• Classroom/lab ratio This module includes 70% theory (classroom) and 30% practical (lab).
LEARNING OUTCOMES
• Module learning outcome This 6050 Hydraulic Mining Shovel Operator’s Station module is designed to
introduce the operator’s station and to identify the location and operation of the
components.
• Visual presentation Participants will take notes on the features of the operator’s station, as well as the
location and function of each component and the main Board Control System
(BCS) screens during a visual presentation of the Operator’s Station module.
• Lab 1 Given the appropriate reference material and the Lab 1 Worksheet, the participant
will be able to locate and identify the operator’s station components and the main
Board Control System (BCS) screens.
• Post-Assessment Given all reference material and class notes, the participant will be able to identify
the function of the components in the operator’s station during a Post-Assessment.

Left joystick A. Illuminates when the batteries are not being charged, or if there is
an alternator defect.
Swing parking brake switch C. Switches the machine to the second traveling stage.
Engine monitoring lamp D. Turns the floodlamps on the cab module ON and OFF.
Right joystick E. 9-pin connector used as the connection port to the CAN Bus 1
system and for programming the STW servo controller.
Alternator lamp F. Moving fore and aft controls the boom function and left or right
controls the bucket function.
Second speed switch G. Turns the floodlamps on the boom ON and OFF.
Cab module floodlamps switch H. Moving fore and aft controls the stick function and left or right
controls the swing function.
RS232 port J. Illuminates if there is a critical fault in the engine. In the event of a
critical fault the engine should be shut down immediately.
