Guided by
Biogenic synthesis of Silicon dioxide nanoparticles and evaluation of its antioxidant activity.
INTRODUCTION
Nanoparticles (NPs) are the particles of matter that are studied intensely due to their
wide applicability. Their size ranges in nanometers (1-100nm) in diameter. They are applicable
in Tissue imaging, in vivo tumor targeting and imaging and live cell bio imaging [1].
In recent
years, development of metal oxide nanoparticles (NP) has accelerated due to their wide
applications in biomedicine. They are widely used in drug delivery, bioanalysis and
bioscaffolding [2]. But these metal oxides are toxic in nature and hence they are being replaced by
green synthesized NP for biological applications, due to their less toxic nature and more
chemical stability. Silicon dioxide (SiO2) NP are highly used in biomedical industry due to their
low cytotoxicity and exceptional chemical stability [3]. Various methods are devised to synthesize
silicon NP such as microemulsion processing [4],
chemical vapor deposition [5],
combustion
synthesis [6],
plasma synthesis , hydrothermal techniques
[7] [8]
and sol–gel processing [9] [10].
Nonetheless most of these techniques are complex, time consuming and harmful. Hence,
biological synthesis of SiO2 through plant sources is carried out due to its practicality. In this
proposed study, synthesis of SiO2 NPs will be carried out by an easy method which offers
advantages such as its simplicity, cost-effectiveness and mild environmental conditions.
In this proposed study, synthesis of SiO 2 NP will be carried out by using various plant
extracts. The investigation also aims to study the toxicity effects of SiO 2 NP on Daphnia
organism and CHO cell lines. The antioxidant activity of SiO2NP will be evaluated [2].
