ACKOWLEDGEMENTS

Without the assistance and cooperation of a number of students, the completion of this
survey would not have been possible. Primarily, I would like to give thanks to the students
and staff of Corazon creek technical high school for their support and the valuable time
they spent on supporting me during the event. Thanks to my parents for giving me this
opportunity to work on this study, even though there has been many household task needs
to be done. Finally, a special thanks geos to my teacher who guided me in every step of the
way through this exercise.

Introduction of sport

Sport includes all forms of competitive physical activity or games which through casual or

organize participation, at least in part aim to use, maintain or improve physical ability and
skills while providing enjoyment to participants, and in some cases, entertainment for
spectators. Hundreds of sports exist, from those between single contestants, through to
those with hundreds of simultaneous participants, either in teams or competing as
individuals. In certain sports such as racing, many contestants may compete,
simultaneously or consecutively, with one winner; in others, the contest (a match) is
between two sides, each attempting to exceed the other. Some sports allow a "tie" or
"draw", in which there is no single winner; others provide tie-breaking methods to ensure
one winner and one loser. A number of contests may be arranged in
a tournament producing a champion. Many sports leagues make an annual champion by
arranging games in a regular sports season, followed in some cases by playoffs.
Sport is generally recognized as system of activities which are based in
physical athleticism or physical dexterity, with the largest major competitions such as
the Olympic Games admitting only sports meeting this definition, and other organizations
such as the Council of Europe using definitions precluding activities without a physical
element from classification as sports. However, a number of competitive, but non-physical,
activities claim recognition as mind sports. The International Olympic Committee
(through ARISF) recognizes both chess and bridge as bona fide sports, and sport accord the
international sports federation association, recognizes five non-physical sports: bridge,
chess, draughts (checkers), Go and xiangqi, and limits the number of mind games which can
be admitted as sports.
Sport is usually governed by a set of rules or customs, which serve to ensure fair
competition, and allow consistent adjudication of the winner. Winning can be determined
by physical events such as scoring goals or crossing a line first. Judges, who are scoring
elements of the sporting performance, including objective or subjective measures such as
technical performance or artistic impression, can also determine it.
Records of performance are often kept, and for popular sports, this information may be
widely announced or reported in sport news. Sport is also a major source of entertainment
for non-participants, with spectator sport drawing large crowds to sport venues, and
reaching wider audiences through broadcasting. Sport betting is in some cases severely
regulated, and in some cases is central to the sport.

4
Why I choose the role of event official

I chose the role of an event official due to the degree of responsibilities it entails. Being
event official involve working independent with performance. Also, I am clever and
versatile to obvious regulations of sport that was require in the competition. Therefore,
whenever I attend a soccer game I am capable and willing to provide fair match amount the
team, even though we know that no one is perfect. Hence the reason why I chose this role,
because I have participated in my village and involve the practice of being an event official
in a friendly game using signal to enable performance to recognize his/her decision.

5
Responsibility of the role of event as event official

Responsible for officiating at the games/events ensuring that the conduct of the
competition is fair.
Prepare scorecard and statistical sheets for the tournament.
Record and tabulates scores and statistics n each game.
Allow the game/event to flow by calling only essential stoppage.
Signal appropriate so that the participants recognize his/her decision.

History of soccer

Soccer is one of the most popular sports in Europe and the Americas. It has a vivid and
interesting history in the world of sports. Early evidence of soccer being played as a sport
finds occurrence in China during the 2nd and 3rd centuries BC. In China, it was during the
Han dynasty that people dribbled leather balls by kicking it into a small net. Recorded facts
also support the fact that Romans and Greeks used to play ball for fun and frolic. Some facts
point to Kyoto in Japan where kicking of ball was a popular sport.
It is said that early growth of the modern soccer started in England. Some amusing facts
even mention that the first ball used was the head of some Danish brigand. It is said that
during medieval times, the old form of soccer used to allow many ill practices like kicking,
punching, biting and gouging. The main aim was to carry the ball to a target spot. People
grew so fond of the game that they would throng the field all day long. Sometimes the
competition grew fierce and masses got so wild that there were frequent incidents of
violence during the game. It is also said that soldiers admired the game so much that they
missed archery practice to watch it.
King Edward III banned soccer in 1365 owing to the growing incidents of violence and
military indulgence in the sport. In 1424 King James I of Scotland also proclaimed in the
Parliament— "Na man play at the Fute-ball" (No man shall play football).
When and where exactly did soccer start is a question that has no precise answer to it. You
can easily say that this popular game has been played for more than three thousand years.
The nativity of modern-day soccer must be credited to Britain. It was also known as the
association football, with Scotland and England being the co-founders of the systematic
game of soccer.
Modern History of Soccer: 18th Century Onward
In 1815, a major development took place that made soccer popular in Universities, Colleges
and Schools. The popular English School and Eton College came forth with a set of rules,
known as the Cambridge Rules. Football was segregated into two groups; some colleges
and schools opted for Rugby rules that allowed tripping, shin kicking and also carrying the
ball. These rules were exclusively prohibited as per the Cambridge rules.
King Edward III banned soccer in 1365, owing to the growing incidents of violence and
military indulgence in the sport.
The history of modern-day soccer was established in 1863. In October 1863, eleven
representatives from London clubs and schools met at the Freemason’s Tavern to set up
common fundamental rules to control the matches amongst themselves. The outcome of
this meeting was the formation of the Football Association. In December 1863, the Rugby
Football and Association football finally split as the supporters of the Rugby School rules
walked out.
Firmly establishing the foundation of soccer in 1869, the Football Association strictly
banned any kind of handling of the ball. Soccer’s popularity spread rapidly during the
1800s as British sailors, traders and soldiers introduced the sport to different parts of the
globe.

7
Italians, Austrians and Germans drew to Europe, while Argentina, Uruguay and Brazil
adopted the sport in South America. FIFA was established in the year 1904 and by early
1930s, different leagues were operating from various countries. FIFA is credited with
organizing the first world cup in Uruguay. The history of soccer is rich with events,
development and its growing craze all over the world. You will find yourself amazed as you
learn about different times of this wonderful sport that has held our awe and admiration
for over 3000 years

Rules of soccer
Law 1  Field of Play
The correct soccer field layout for the field of play is regulated; however there is no
universal size, except for international matches. The touch lines (lines running end to end),
can be anywhere from 100-130 yards (90-120 meters) and the goal lines (running behind
the goal, across the width of the field) can be anywhere from 50-100 yards (45 to 90
meters).
Law 2  The Ball
Of course, there wouldn't be much of a game without a soccer ball, and there are actually a
few different sizes available. Rules state however that the ball used must have a
circumference of 27-28 inches and weigh 14-16oz.
Check out the soccer ball page for more information on the different balls available.
Law 3  The Number of Players
According to soccer rules, each game should have 10 players plus 1 goalkeeper on the field,
for a total of 11 players. Furthermore, a match cannot start with fewer than seven players.
International matches you'll notice have a limit of 3 substitutions, including goalkeepers,
but the rules do differ for other leagues.
All players who may see action must have their names submitted to the referee before the
match. Most leagues use a game sheet for just such a purpose.
Law 4  The Players' Equipment
Basic equipment for each player includes a jersey, shorts, socks, shin guards, and of course
footwear.
Each team must wear different colours, generally one dark and one light. In addition, the
goalkeepers must also wear colours that distinguish themselves from their teammates.

Law 5  The Referee
One of the most thankless jobs out there, a referee is required for all soccer matches. The
referee's job is to enforce the laws of the game while maintaining order and ensuring fair
play.
Law 6  The Assistant Referees
The assistants or "lines man" is positioned on either side of the touchlines and are
generally used to determine when the ball is out of play, which team is entitled to the ball
for a throw-in, corner, or free-kick, as well as calling offenses when they have a better view
of the action than the referee.
Law 7  The Duration of the Match
Most matches consist of two 45-minute halves, with a half time intermission not exceeding
15 minutes. Of course this also varies according to the league you're playing in, with
younger players generally playing shorter halves.
Current soccer rules state that any agreement to shorten the length of the game must be
made before the match begins and must be agreed to by both teams.
One more interesting thing to keep in mind here is that unlike other sports, soccer rules
stipulate that the referee should make an allowance for any stoppages through injury time,
and add this time to the end of every half, as the clock is not stopped in soccer.
Law 8  The Start and Restart of Play

9
Each match is started by a coin toss with the winner determining which goal they will
attack, and the other team taking the kick off.
Dropped balls are used to restart play for any reason not outlined in the soccer rules listed
in the FIFA Laws of the Game. You may see this often in amateur play where the referee will
stop the game for injury.
Law 9  The Ball In and Out of Play
The two important things to note here is that the ball is considered out of play any time it
entirely crosses either the touch or goal lines, or the referee blows the play dead. At any
other time, the ball is in play.
Law 10  The Method of Scoring
For a goal to count, the whole ball needs to cross over the goal line, between the goal posts
and under the crossbar. Of course, the scoring team for the goal to stand can infringe no
soccer rules. This law also deals with things such as away goals, extra time, and shootouts.
Law 11  Offside
The offside rule is one of the most confusing in the entire game. The main thing to keep in
mind is that to be offside you need to be closer to the goal line than both the ball and
second last opponent, including the goalie. In addition, only when you are part of the active
play are you deemed offside.
Law 12  Fouls and Misconduct
There are several things you can do to foul the opposition and most are very obvious. Law
12 outlines the various fouls, disciplinary sanctions, as well as the difference between a
direct and indirect free kick.
Keep in mind that any foul committed within the penalty area will result in a penalty kick.
Law 13  Free Kicks
Law 13 concerns itself with free kick rules. In soccer, there are both direct and indirect free
kicks awarded, depending on the offence. A direct kick may be kicked directly into the
opponent goal, while another player must touch an indirect kick before it can be struck into
the goal.
Players must also give a minimum of 10 yards of space from the ball until it is touched.
Law 14  The Penalty Kick
Any fouls committed within the penalty area that would otherwise result in a direct free
kick are instead awarded a penalty shot, which is taken according to penalty kick rules.
This kick is taken from the penalty spot, with all other players standing outside of the
penalty area at least 10 yards from the penalty mark.
Law 15  The Throw-In
The throw-in is used to restart play when the ball has crossed one of the touchlines. Make
sure to keep your feet down, use both hands, and throw the ball from behind and over your
head and not into the ground.
According to throw in rules, not properly taking a throw will result in an infraction and the
throw being awarded to the opposing team.
Law 16  The Goal Kick
A goal kick is used to restart play whenever the attacking teams send the ball across the
goal line and a goal has not been scored.
Goal kick rules state that the ball can be kicked from anywhere inside the goal area by any
member of the defending team and is only considered to be in play once it exits the penalty
area.
Law 17  The Corner Kick

10
On the other hand, any time the ball is sent across the goal line without a goal being scored
and the ball was last touched by the defending team, a corner kick is awarded.
Corner kick rules state that a corner kick should be taken from the corner arc closet from
where the ball was put out of play and the ball is considered in play as soon as it is touched.

Reflection on project

I, Ermelindo Paau was very happy that I got the opportunity to do this project. During the
game it was learnt that being an event official involve the piece in the game. It was also
noticed that a performance couldn’t do thing on his/her self unless the referee give
instruction. Therefore, when I attend a soccer game I have provide fair match amount the
team, even though I know that no one is perfect. Hence the reason why I provide fair game,
because I have participated in my village and involve the practice of being an event official
in a friendly game using signal to enable performance to recognize his/her decision.

Conclusion

It was found out that carrying out this project was little bit difficult. Hence it requires more
time. I thought I knew all, however there were still many things that I must need to know
about soccer. However I realized that I have excellent idea about this sport. After
conducting a topic about soccer I noticed that there were several things that I miss out
about soccer. Soccer was an interesting sport to me hence it encourage me to uplift my
stander of health and balance diet. I found out that I am verse with the regulation of soccer.
When my teacher told me to carry this event as an event official I am absolutely nervous
hence thought that it might be difficult for me to carry. It was found out that with the
assistance of my family and teacher I am capable to make this project a reality.
