consider your own past and current roles. Describe a time when you were a leader or a follower
on a team in a given situation.

Leader Example

Being a leader comes with responsibilities that can best be learned through experience.
An experience that I held as a leader was when I traveled to New York City with a group for the
Yellowbrick X Parsons New York Fashion Week Future Fashion Stars Experience. Split into teams
of five with people from across the world we were challenged to create a lookbook or a runway
show plan. The challenge began with getting to know and work with those from different
cultures. In my group we had those from places like India, Columbia, Trinidad and Peru, all
bringing different ideas and ways of work to the table. On the line were tickets to a show and a
chance to present in front of about a hundred people including those important and successful
in the industry. With such and overwhelming task and pressure the work seemed like a lot for
five people who had just met.
I was able to step up and get topics started and ideas flowing bringing out some
brainstorming from my team. I stepped up as a leader and designated tasks and organized the
team. Tasks were then sorted to those with the comparative advantage. This is similar to
designing the job duties. Being able to take the lead and to help be the head of this group, even
thought the group was small was an experience that has helped me grow as a leader. Our team
was able to place third in the competition, which is an unbelievably huge accomplishment.
