The novel, A Farewell to Arms is written by Ernest Hemingway; he was rejected from the

army during the First World War. In the novel, the content suggests that the relationship with the

military could have been the main reason for writing this novel. In the book, Hemingway

involved three of their characters one of them who is an American ambulance driver Frederick,

the change as well as the difficulties he experienced during the war, love and eventually the

death. During the war Henry feels that it had no extreme effects on his life as it is not being

fought in his country, he thinks that he is only in a country where the war is fought, and therefore

he has nothing to be concerned about the war. His lack of attachment to the battle continues until

it takes a toll on him, and this is where he changes his connections to the war (Hemingway,

2012).

Despite being an American in Italy, Henry is not spared either from the impacts of the

war, the ends up being affected by the war just like any other person in the battleground

regardless of their nationality. As a result, he ends up being changed by these impacts and gets to

understand the effect that the war had on people and the need to end the war to allow peaceful

coexistence between nations with different ideologies or political affiliation. He realizes after

suffering from the impacts of the war that it was dangerous to him than any other person.

In summary, the change of henry’s perception of the war was mainly motivated by the

suffering he endured during the war. Initially, he had felt no attachment to the war since he was

an American working in Italy. After suffering from the impacts of the war, he felt the reality of

the war and got to understand the pain that people were going through. It is through his suffering

in the war that he got to understand the wrath of the war, and it could affect anyone regardless of

one nationality.
