Delivery times letters and parcels
from the Netherlands to cross border destinations and return shipments
You send letters or parcels from the Netherlands to cross border destinations and you want to know how many days a shipment is on the way.
In the table below you will find an indication of the delivery time of letters and parcels. PostNL has no influence on the postal process of others
countries, the delivery time may therefore deviate from the indicated delivery time.

Priority or Standard service for letters or
­(letterbox) packets
In general, all mail is shipped with Priority as long as it has a
Priority logo affixed to the item. Without a Priority logo it is
shipped as standard service. On average, a mail item with
standard service takes 2 working days longer within Europe.
Business customer? If your mail is less urgent, you can choose
for a slightly longer delivery time at a lower rate. Handy for
example when you are sending Direct Mail.
Packet Tracked
For business customers who send parcels up to the size of a
shoe box format there is Packet Tracked. Packet Tracked is
available to most common destinations worldwide.
The availability and delivery time for this product can be found
in this table.
Return shipments to the Netherlands
As a business customer of PostNL you can also use our
commercial international returns. The delivery time in the
country list applies to the products "IBRS" (up to 2 kg) and
"Parcels Europe Returns". The delivery time of "International
Returns Basic" and ‘International Returns’ differs per service
and depends on the preferred method and frequency of
returning the returns after it is collected.

Are you expecting a shipment that cannot be delivered or is
returned from abroad? Then the delivery time depends on the
postal process abroad.
Express service
The delivery time for Express Service shipments is not included
in the table below. This depends on where you send it in the
country of destination. On average, the delivery time is 1 or 2
days when it comes to capitals and major business centers in
Europe. Out there it takes a little longer, if you want to know
exactly, you can inquire at a PostNL location. View here to
which countries Express service is available.
Track & Trace
Are you sending a parcel or business packet tracked abroad,
we offer standard Track & Trace. In addition, often registered
and insured letters and parcels can also be tracked via Track &
Trace. This information however, is not shared by default from
all destinations. The table therefore also indicates per product
and per country whether or not track & trace is available is up
to the country of destination.
Postage correctly
Do you sometimes send goods in an envelope? Because of
international regulations we must strictly make a distinction
between documents and goods. All your goods shipments
must have a shipping label with barcode.
For shipments outside the EU customs forms are compulsory.
If the forms are missing on your shipment, this can lead to
delay, return or even destroy your goods. In addition,
information about the shipment must be digitally shared in
advance with the country of destination. Therefore we
strongly advise to ship items containing goods going abroad
online via jouw.postnl.nl or as business customer via your
personal MijnPostNL account or PostNL API.
Other factors influencing the delivery time
A number of factors can influence the delivery time, this may
deviate for example due to:
• Local holidays
• Dealing with customs in the country of destination
• Strikes or other special events in the country of destination
