1. What is the importance of national building code?
The importance of the National Building Code is that it protects public safety, health, and general welfare. It also serves as the standard or bases and requirement for all buildings and structures to control the quality of materials, design, construction, and maintenance. Thus, this Code ensures the quality of construction while protecting our welfare. 2. What is the minimum size of rooms for human habitation? 6.00 square meters with a least dimension of 2.00 meters 3. How long is a building permit valid in the Philippines? One (1) year 4. What are the typical requirements for a building permit? In order to obtain a building permit, the applicant shall file an application therefor in writing and on the prescribed form from the Office of the Building Official. Every application shall provide at least the following information: (a) A description of the work to be covered by the permit applied for; (b) Certified true copy of the TCT covering the lot on which the proposed work is to be done. If the applicant is not the registered owner, in addition to the TCT, a copy of the contract of lease shall be submitted; (c) The use or occupancy for which the proposal work is intended; (d) Estimated cost of the proposed work. To be submitted together with such application are at least five sets of corresponding plans and specifications prepared, signed and sealed by a duly registered mechanical engineer in case of mechanical plans, and by a registered electrical engineer in case of electrical plans, except in those cases exempted or not required by the Building Official under this Code. 5. Why is RA 9266 important? This act recognizes the importance of architects in nation building and development. Hence, it shall develop and nurture competent, virtuous, productive and well-rounded professional architects whose standards of practice and service shall be excellent, qualitative, world-class and globally competitive through inviolable, honest, effective and credible licensure examinations and through regulatory measures, programs and activities that foster their professional growth and development. This act limits the practice of architecture only to those duly licensed Architects. 6. What are the three principles of architecture? Utility, strength and beauty 7. What is the purpose of architectural code? The Architectural Code is a comprehensive regulation for the registration, licensing and practice of architecture. This serve as guide to architects in the total design of the building and other structures in accordance to the declaration of the code. 8. Why builders refer to the National Structural Code of the Philippines (NSCP)? Builders refer to the National Structural Code of the Philippines (NSCP) to ensure that buildings, such as high-rise condominiums, or other structure are durable and can withstand tremors like high magnitude earthquakes, heavy rains, floods, and other environmental disaster. 9. What is the difference between NSCP 2010 and 2015? In a study entitled “Comparison of structural designs of a low-rise building using NSCP 2010 versus using NSCP 2015”, it compared the structural designs of a standard three- storey building in Apayao using the NSCP 2010 versus using the NSCP 2015. The existing plans of the building were used for the design of the building model. Dead loads, live loads, wind loads, and earthquake loads were the loads needed to be compared in the study. The data from these loads were simulated using STAAD and ETABS. Design adjustments were made during and after obtaining the output. The final analysis and evaluation were made using different parameters such as stresses, moment diagrams, shear reinforcements, and areas of steel reinforcements. The result shows a large percentage increase of the areas of shear reinforcement and maximum shear and maximum moment of failed members and statistically proven by the T test. A paired-samples t-test was conducted to compare NSCP 2010 and NSCP 2015 designs. t Stat is greater than t critical. Therefore, there was a significant difference in the NSCP 2010 (mean = 542.74, SD = 688.23) and NSCP 2015 (mean = 524.60, SD = 682.18); t = 4.40, P = 0.0000115. Therefore, NSCP 2015, in the said comparative study, is more effective and efficient to use by the designers and civil engineers involved in the construction. 10. In your own opinion, why do we need to follow building structural and architectural codes? In order for us to have efficient, durable, and effective structures. These also serve as our guide, especially to those beginners or newly license architects and civil engineers, on how to construct a safe and quality infrastructure. Since these codes are the basis of all architects and engineers in building constructions, it is our responsibility to follow and do the same. These Codes also serve as our tool to have a building permit, unable to have building permit is illegal.
