The most significant contribution of architecture is it describes the evolutions of the

human lifestyle throughout the course of human history. Architecture is a science that consists
of various techniques to design a safe building. No matter what the building is used for:
residence, business, research, industry, or simply entertainment, the purpose is to serve
humans and brings comfort in their lives. By looking at the history of architecture it is evident
that architecture has evolved through the years and has shaped a new world. Modern
architecture is focused on sustainability and protecting the environment while spending minimal
cost. It also focuses on maximizing the benefits from its design. At its roots, architecture exists
to create the physical environment in which people live, but architecture is more than just the
built environment, it’s also a part of our culture. It stands as a representation of how we see
ourselves, as well as how we see the world. Moreover, architecture has played its role in
reflecting the historical cultures and their evolution to modern-day cultures. The experts of the
field study historical building to guess the lifestyle of historical societies and people. It makes the
connection between past and present and predicts the future. In conclusion, it is not wrong to

around the world.

FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT

1. What is the importance of arts and humanities in our lives?

What are arts and humanities? Is it simply history, philosophy, literature, arts and music?
I believe arts and humanities are far beyond that. They are branches of learning concerned with
human thought, feelings, and relations. The importance of the human being and his/her telling
and how these are expressed have always been the concern of the humanities. Art is very
important in our lives as it constitutes one of the oldest and most important means of expression
developed by man. Wherever people have lived together, art has sprung up among them as a
language charge with feeling and significance.
The arts and humanities are essential to a liberal arts education because of their direct
connection to human experience. Arts and humanities help us to develop critical thinking,
witness others experience, understand how people from different culture lives and their own
value. It broadens our perspective of life and society thus helps us to deal with everyday
problem and bring us closer to one another. Arts and humanities are essential to every one of
us, the consequence of generation without arts and humanities means a generation without
thoughts, experience and ability to deal with problem in life as well as dealing with people
around us. However, with the never-ending demands of new technology and invention, the
society is starting to pay less attention to the importance of arts and humanities. As a result,
generations today without arts and humanities are lacking the ability of critical thinking as well
as how the world revolves around us, and the ability to read, reason and communicate.

To conclude, the arts and humanities have a huge importance in our lives as it helps us
to have a better vision of the past and how the world is changing throughout times. On the other
hand, arts and humanities can help us think, make decisions upon the mistakes that had
already be done in the past and also the great things people accomplished.

2. What are the functions of art in the context of enhancing your personality?

Personality is an art itself and art enhances our self within. There are several functions
of art in the context of enhancing our personalities.

First, art is an expression. Creating art or simply having glimpse of it develops self-
esteem and gives us a way to communicate our most inner thoughts and feelings. Second, the
creation of beauty is art. Every piece of art, whether a painting, a vase or a statue, will have
different colors, lines, and textures that will appeal to our soul and heart. It has the ability to
resonate with people and hit to the heart of our emotions. Third, art allows us to know thyselves.
During this process, artists are exploring their subject, medium, and material, rebalancing the
spiritual value of those elements, thereby experiencing the subtle preciousness of their
awareness. This interaction is beautiful which in fact leads to the inevitable desire for outward
expression. Fourth, art is freedom in every sense. One decides to express the imagination is
brave as the value of freedom in our creative expression cannot be overstated. Fifth, art sends
strong messages from the sidewalk to the world at large. Art thinks, feels, and evokes thoughts
and emotions in the people that view it with an open mind. Using iconic imagery that is often
recognizable regardless of language, artist is able to speak his opinions and solutions to a
global audience, making this a rapidly advancing form of art the world over. Sixth, art validates
our sorrows. Art helps us see that sorrow can be beautiful and noble and still be one aspect of a
good life. Seventh, art is the highest form of hope. Experiencing such heart-warming feelings
about it encourages us to hope for the same thing for ourselves. Eighth, art rebalances our life.
Viewing art that depicts situations and feelings outside of what we normally experience on a
daily basis helps us attain balance in our emotions by filling those voids. Ninth, art is a therapy.
Taking our time to mindfully observe artwork can be of true value to our emotional well-being.
Lastly, art is us. Art helps us to complete our own unformed thoughts and ideas. We have an
‘aha’ moment when we see a piece of art that perfectly captures a feeling or thought we have
had that we couldn’t express. When this happens, we have gained a piece of new knowledge
through the art that we can now communicate to ourselves and to others.

3. Give interpretations of the seven elements of arts.

Elements of Arts Interpretations

Line is defined as a point moving in space

where its length is greater than its width. Lines
can be two or three dimensional, implied or
1. Line abstract. Different types of lines include
continuous, broken, jagged, vertical,
horizontal, or diagonal. Lines are the
foundation of drawing. The enclosed lines are
then transformed into another element of art
called shape.

Shapes are areas of enclosed space that are

two-dimensional. Shapes are flat, and can only
have height and width. The two different
2. Shape categories of shapes are: geometric and
organic. Geometric shapes are mathematical,
like circles and squares. Organic shapes come
from nature, like clouds and leaves. Shapes in
art can be used to control how the viewer
perceives a piece.

Form is the three-dimensional version of a

shape. An artwork that has the art element of
form can be viewed from different angles, and
is not flat. Forms have height and width, but
they also have depth. When shape acquires
3. Form
depth and becomes three dimensional, it takes
on form. Three-dimensional art has an actual
form (like in architecture) while two-
dimensional pieces can have the illusion of
form when the artist uses perspective or
shading. Some common forms are cones,
pyramids, spheres, and cubes

Space deals with the illusion of depth on a flat

surface. We might overlap shapes to make
some look closer, or make objects in the
distance smaller to look like they are farther
away. Space can be positive or negative.
Positive space is an area occupied by an
4. Space object or form. Negative space is the area that
runs between, through, and around or within
objects. This includes background, foreground,
and middle ground. Space that can be
manipulated in art based on how an artist uses
lines, shape, form, and color.

Texture is how an object looks or feels.

Sometimes texture can actually feel, such as
in sculpture or the texture of work can be
5. Texture implied such as if you were to sketch a
sheep’s wool. Some words to describe texture
include soft, hard, rough, brittle, fluffy, or
smooth. It is an element of art that refers to the
way things feel, or look as if they might feel if
touched.

Value refers to the lightness and darkness of

areas in an artwork. White is the lightest value,
while black is the darkest. A value scale shows
6. Value a range of lights and darks. The difference
between values is contrast. We can study the
use of value in monochromatic or black and
white pieces of art.

There are three different components to color,

there is hue which is the name we give the
color (red, yellow, blue, etc.), intensity, which
7. Color refers to the vividness of the color (intensity
can also be referred to as saturation or purity),
and value meaning how dark or light a color is.
Color can be used symbolically or to produce
a pattern or to show contrast in a piece.

SUPPLEMENTAL ACTIVITY

1. In what ways does art contribute to the physical, social, and spiritual well-being of man?

Art is a very powerful form of recreation and learning experience for the development of
a man. Art allows us to holistically improve ourselves as it affects as in different aspects of our
lives.

Physical - Art is not merely a matter of your creativity and basic imagination, however
there is more to art than that. It can contribute to our physical well-being as well. For instance,
jujitsu - is a form of martial arts that is not just made for self-defense but as well as an
expressive form of art. It is the combination of hand movement and its synchronization with the
rest of the body that makes it a good form of physical activity and art form. Moreover, the arts
improve physical health. It has long been anecdotally known that the arts relieve stress, but
studies show that certain acts of creativity (such as writing) enhance the immune system,
improve physical health and decrease medical visits.

Social - Art is an expression, and a form of communication. Socially, art helps us to

communicate with different kinds of people and help ensure that though we cannot
communicate with them through words - art can be another source for that. Art is a language as
they say. Additionally, engaging in arts, social activities and interaction within our communities
can help with major challenges such as ageing and loneliness. It can help to boost confidence
and make us feel more engaged and resilient. Through getting involved with arts, people in later
life can rebuild their social connections and extend existing support in their communities.
Getting in touch with others helps in alleviating loneliness and isolation. This is also true for care
homes, where arts activities can help increase social interactions between residents and
residents and staff which can improve mood and wellbeing.

Spiritual - Most of all, spiritually it helps us devote our beliefs and faith. By projecting
art, we can communicate the views of different spiritually within us. Throughout history, people
have used art, music and literature to express their religious beliefs, and to help them to focus
on practices such as prayer and worship. Beautiful words, images and objects have played a
big part in many world religions. The arts may offer a chance to reflect, to feel uplifted and
happy, and to bring something intellectually or spiritually nourishing into our lives

To conclude, creative interaction in the arts can be used as a way to heal people
emotionally, spiritually, and physically and contribute to our holistic well-being.

2. Describe the mountains in your place and what aesthetic values can it give to your
place?

The mountains in our beloved barangay, Garcia, are breathtaking and spectacular.
When the sun slowly peeps over the range of mountains, birds shake the morning dew off their
feathers and give a cheerful song that would lift even the most sorrowful of spirits in our
community. A light fog wraps around the mountain range, reaching to touch every bit of life
thriving there. The slight chill in the air is enough to give a gentle shiver, but not enough for the
need of a jacket. A breeze tickles the trees, making their leaves shake and sway with laughter.
Sunlight seeps in past the thick canopy of branches with hopes of being able to reach the damp
mountain.

The mountains in our place are the best place to be relaxed, see the most beauty, and
never get bored. These mountains have an important characteristic of tourism destinations and
experiences. Mountains and mountain scenery offer inexhaustible aesthetic experiences,
representing fundamental resources for the development in our community. Mountains are
features of the landscape that provide a common reference point for beauty and its abstract
qualities, such as ‘regularity, restraint, symmetry, proportion and balance’ when framing
aesthetic propositions. This is because beauty is the most widely identified dimension of
landscape perception and value.
