Language is a Cake

Language in general is very wide. It composes different characters and forms depending on how
we use it through communication. It includes layers of knowledge, usage, functions and distinctions. It has
also decorative elements that are being molded and sculpted to resemble different dimensions, rules and
language arts. But no matter how big or wide, how many piled of layers and sometimes how complicated
are the decorations on top, it is still attractive and fun to eat just like teaching a language.

Language is a cake. Cake is made from different components like sugar, flour and cream, in
language it comprises words or vocabularies, grammar, punctuation, intonation, accent, to deliver
understandable and pleasant communication. But then, baking a cake is never easy, there is a procedure
to follow. It should also have an exact measurement and ratio of the ingredients and heat in order to bake it
deliciously. Just like learning a language, it takes a step-by-step process with the right amount of passion,
patience, focus, interest, and motivation. Once baked, add some decorations according to how you like it.
At this point of time, after you acquire such language expertise, you have now the capability on how you
are going to use it or explore to it. You could divide it into pieces, where you could share to your learners or
you could bake again and put a twist. As for me, that’s what I am planning to do.

I want to make my own twist version of a cake before I will share it to everyone. I already have the
knowledge and capabilities but I need customers to love and trust what I make. Teaching a language needs
to be in a process. As a teacher, I must have the ability to guide them well and provide them enough
ingredients and correct procedure. Offer and share my cake of expertise in a most engaging, enjoyable and
attractive one. I have to cater their needs by giving them of my sliced pieces of cake. It means I have to
teach them according to their goals. In other aspect, I want to bake them to be at their best version.

That’s why I am here studying and learning this course because I want to explore and to widen my
expertise. I also want to be an effective language teacher by taking this opportunity to explore how it is
most-effectively taught. Aside from that, I want to gain a TESOL certificate that could make me more
attractive to the learner’s aspects internationally. I want to help and teach our international student whose
English is their second language, in a way that they will enjoy and digest in an easier way.
