1. GENERAL INFORMATION
1.1 IMPORTANT
Each Milestone’s unit is accurately tested before leaving the manufacturing plant and is
provided with Quality Test Certificate.
However, to ensure long and safe operation of the system, proper use along with accurate
service is required.
Warranty claims can be made only if the KOS has been used for the specified applications
and operated according to the instructions included in the USER MANUAL and in this
manual. Damage resulting from inappropriate handling and/or misuse of the product will
invalidate the warranty.
Milestone owns the copyright on this document and any associated software.
In addition it is required that the unit is cleaned and disinfected before sending it to
MILESTONE HEADQUARTER.
Not disinfected devices will be no longer accepted and you will be contacted to get the
relative disinfection cost.
a) Always disconnect the unit from the main power supply before doing any repairs.
b) Before switching on the unit after each repair, it is necessary to make sure that:
1. All the internal connections are correctly fixed;
2. All the cables are insulated and do not get in contact with either the door or sharp
edges of the unit;
3. Both the electrical and mechanical connections are virtually faultless;
4. No modification has been made to the built-in safety devices;
5. The spare parts are those recommended by manufacturer;
6. Do not operate the unit if the slightest doubt exists that the unit is not properly
working.
7. Be sure that the ground wire for the power cable is connected to the ground
terminal on the facility side, also be sure that the ground wire for the instrument
interior is connected to a protecting ground terminal.
c) The microwaves generated inside the KOS unit have a frequency of 2450MHz and
reach the highest absorption in aqueous matrices causing a rapid increase in temperature.
This may represent a danger for the operator; therefore avoid any exposure to the
microwave field generated by the magnetron.
d) Inside the KOS there are 2 permanent magnets but the magnetic field does not leak
from the machine; in any case we recommend that service people with pace maker do not
open the Kos lateral windows.
e) Some parts of the instrument became hot during operation, when access these
parts, check if they are cooled sufficiently or wear protective gloves.
f) The reagents or paraffin in the instruments may remain hot, be careful when using a
retort or a pipe.
g) The iron panels in the instruments may have sharp edges, be careful when touch
these parts, pay attention to prevent injury.
h) Pathogenic organisms may remain inside the instrument (particularly in the retorts,
pumps, tubes and other parts that come in contact with the reagents). Wear protective
groves to prevent infection. When the work is finished wash your hands thoroughly.
i) Pay attention to the work environment and provide ventilation to prevent poisoning
due to the presence of solvents
j) Reagents are combustible, so never bring them close to sources or flame or fire.
k) The instructions accompanied by the following symbols are of particular importance
in ensuring the engineer’s safety. Be sure to check the content of each instruction before
hand and perform all work in observance of the instructions.
l) The instructions accompanied by the following symbols are of particular importance
in ensuring the engineer’s safety. Be sure to check the content of each instruction before
hand and perform all work in observance of the instructions.
m) Do not install KOS near:
• Heat sources
• U.V.ray
• sunrays

2.1.2 Space
55cm
34cm 60cm
In the figures are shown the dimensions of KOS. These are the space dimensions
required:
Connect the exhaust fume tube to the fume extractor using the metal clamp:
Unscrew 6 cross-screws on backside and 2-screws per side (right and left).
Remove the Carbon-Filter on the right side of the unit.
Remove the chassis (the carbon filter is maintained block by a magnet, so you can have
the chassis attracted by the magnet of carbon filter).

4. CALIBRATION OF KOS
4.1 INTRODUCTION
Execution of these operations requires to be logged-in as SERVICE as follows: Open the
Log-in screen, press “SERVICE” icon on bottom, type/enter the service password: ‘035’.
“ ” you get:
Current
measure
Calibration On-screen
BOX keyboard
Curr. measure
selection
Select your first histomodule (p/e the 4K) and choose it pressing the “Current measure
selection” buttons (“TEST 4K”).
Fill the histomodule with water and insert the stirrer spin.
Measure using a calibrated external thermometer (such us a k-thermocouple) and fill the
measured temperature in “Lower value”-“T1°C” box th en copy from the
“Actual RAW temperature box” value in the “Lower value”-“T1 RAW”.
On screen press “SAVE” button and access to the “Hardware diagnostic” pressing the
icon: “ ”.
Set stirrer speed at approx 400rpm pressing the “Set Stirrer Speed RPM”:
If the “Stirrer speed RPM” remain at 0rpm if present get Security green pressing it:
Set Magnetron time at least 100s and “Set Magnetron Power” at 100: the KOS starts to
increase the temperature (and you ear the fans rotating).
Let the “Temperature RAW” reach around 580 then stop pressing the “Magnetron Heating”
green-button: heating system stops and the button becomes dark-gray.
“ ”.
Take a 4/C histomodule filled with water without the cap and without the stirrer.
Place it inside the cavity:
and “Set Magnetron Power” at 100: the KOS starts to increase the temperature. The water
starts to boil then you see the “Humidity” box increase.
Wait until you can see some moisture on cavity’s surface copy the Humidity value from the
screen:
In normally the value is 320, press the white box the use the on-screen keyboard:
Verify the “Humidity sensor” button is GREEN, if not press it. Press SAVE “ ”
“ ”.
Take a 4/C histomodule filled with ETHANOL (use Ethanol not other alcohol because can
be toxic). Place it inside the cavity:
and “Set Magnetron Power” at 80: the KOS starts to increase the temperature.
The ethanol starts to boil you see the “Organic sensor” box increase.
Wait until you can see some moisture on cavity’s surface copy the Organic Sensor value
from the screen:
1000
In normally the value is 930, press the white box the use the on-screen keyboard:
Verify the “Humidity sensor” button is GREEN, if not press it. Press SAVE “ ”
