Assessment

grade.

Lesson Plan
Start off with a whole group discussion of what it means to be a citizen. Then
discuss what it means to be a global citizen and if there are differences. We will then
read the book “All Are Welcome.” I have the book in my classroom and will read it aloud
to my students. This sets up our discussion of celebrating diversity and accepting
people as they are.
Then students will write a letter to a pen pal. They will work on letter writing skills,
spelling, and grammar. I will display a list of topics that can be discussed in the letter
from https://biglifejournal.com/blogs/blog/find-pen-pal-for-your-child. Student will choose
what they want to write about while keeping it professional and at a 6th grade level. For
now, this will just be a writing activity. Letters can possibly be sent at a later time. I will
show my students a website where they can find resources on how to find a global pen
pal (https://www.scarymommy.com/pen-pals-kids).
