COMP 3 – STATISTICAL ANALYSIS WITH SOFTWARE APPLICATION

Course Description:
This course is intended to develop student’s sense of appreciation of the practical,
intellectual and authentic dimensions of statistics and students’ skills in applying statistical
tools in daily life. Students will earn statistical techniques for further study in business,
finance, and accounting.
The course covers introduction to software application, sampling distributions, probability,
confidence intervals, hypothesis testing, correlations, regression, basic modelling, analysis
of variance, and chi-square tests. Statistical concepts include the nature of descriptive
statistics and non-parametric tests.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of the course, students will be able to:
1. organize and present quantitative data such that trends and conclusions are
suggested.
2. infer some characteristics of a population by examining a portion of the population.
3. compare characteristics of different population.
4. make informed decisions in a probabilistic business environment.
5. think critically with respect to quantitative information.
6. analyze and present a mini-research paper.
Grading System:
Each student shall be assessed on the following:
1. Pre-Midterm/Pre-Final Examination 25%
2. Midterm/Final Examination 25%
3. Activities/Research Paper 50%
100%
