Learning on the TFN Course: A Reflection Paper

Theoretical Foundation of Nursing is a course that Florence Nightingale fought for the nurses
and nursing students back then. Before starting the semester, I’ve kind of heard a lot about her and how
she contributed a lot in the nursing field. At first honestly, it was exciting because I got to learn a lot of
history and learn their contribution in the said field, but it was too fast for me to digest everything.

There are times that I have hard time to catch up, honestly most of the time. Whenever I watch
discussion over the said course I got to learned and understand deeply, in addition to it whenever I
make my reviewers, I got to remember whose who and I kind of take it to my heart. I learned a lot from
this course it did not just talk about the history of nursing and what theories contributed to the field but
also what can we, us, as a nursing students get from it and apply it to ourselves. I believe that as the
years goes by, we should develop the heart of a true nurse. A nurse not just by the profession or by the
license but a nurse by heart. Most of the student our suffering to this course and I too feel the same, but
I find the enjoyment in learning this it’s just I felt its too late to grasp everything, but I know its not too
late to apply what I’ve learned from the different contributors in the nursing field. I wish to know deeply
about them but I know that they left a great learning for us to focus on.

I also want to take this opportunity to be grateful to our instructor Ms. Pascasio for giving her
heart and knowledge and sharing her experiences when she was a nurse. It might a short amount of
time, but I treasured everything. It’s an honor to meet a lot of personalities in the class that I get to
connect with the lesson. Thank you because it also helps me spiritually especially the time, I was
physically sick and spiritually struggling. Thank you for emphasizing how much we need to rely on God
Ma’am. I am grateful for you love towards teaching and rooting for future nurses.

Truly a nurse isn’t just a profession nor an occupation it is a calling from above so does being a
disciple of Christ. it is also a practice of art in caring individuals; a skill whom you have the ability to help
the clients identify their existing health condition by persuading in them the fact and not the bluff
information to their well-being; an ability of social intelligence as of to create a harmonious nurse-to-
patient- relationship bond; It is a gift which is bestowed in you because not all people has the talent to
take care of people due to lack of patience. The TFN (Theoretical Foundations of Nursing) allow us
students to develop and strengthen the theoretical knowledge base from which we achieve practice,
advance our skills of critical thinking, and analysis for the principle of achieving brilliance in the practice
of nursing.
