MAJOR PETA: Philosopher of My Life

“ Knowing your own darkness is the best method for dealing with the
darkness of other people.” This was said by one of the great and sophisticated
philosopher who was known for his name Carl Jung.

Who is Carl Jung?

Carl Gustav Jung, is a psychotherapist and psychiatrist who founded the
area of analytical psychology in the early twentieth century, was a pioneer
in the subject. He established the concepts of introvert and extrovert
personalities, archetypes, and the unconscious mind's power. He is largely
regarded as one of psychology's most influential personalities. Carl Jung
was born in Kesswil, Switzerland, on July 26, 1875, and died in Küsnacht,
Switzerland, on June 6, 1961.

Jung aspired to be a preacher or pastor since he was a child. His family

had a strong moral sensibility, and numerous of his family members were
also pastors. Jung had wanted to study archaeology for a long time, but his
family couldn't afford to take him any further than Basel University, which
did not offer archaeology. After studying philosophy in his adolescence,
Jung opted to pursue psychiatry and medicine rather than religious
traditionalism. Jung enrolled at the University of Basel to study medicine in
1895. His father Paul died a year later, in 1896, leaving the family
homeless. They received assistance from relatives who also contributed to
Jung's studies.
BELIEFS

Carl Jung was a believer in "complex" connections, or emotionally laden

associations. He worked with Sigmund Freud, although they disagreed on
the sexual origin of neuroses.

For Carl Jung, what is a complex?

A complex is a fundamental pattern of

emotions, memories, perceptions, and
wishes grouped around a common topic,
such as power or status, in the personal
unconscious.

JUNGIAN ARCHETYPES

On the other hand, Carl Jung also believes in different archetypes. According to
him, Jungian archetypes are pictures and ideas derived from the collective
unconscious. Archetypes appear in dreams, literature, art, and religion and have
universal meanings across civilizations. Because they arose from archetypes shared
by the entire human race and are part of our collective unconscious, Jung believes
symbols from many cultures are often
extremely similar. Our primal history,
according to Jung, becomes the foundation
of the human psyche, leading and
affecting current conduct. Jung claimed to
have identified a huge number of
archetypes, but he focused on four in
particular. These archetypes are known as
the Self, Persona, Shadow, and
Anima/Animus, as per Jung.

WORKS
Carl Jung is widely regarded as one of history's most significant
psychiatrists. He created analytical psychology and was one of the first
researchers in his discipline to look into the theological underpinnings of
human behavior. He claimed that empirical proof was not the only means to
arrive at psychological or scientific facts, and that the soul is an important
part of the mind. Among Jung's most important contributions are:

 The collective unconscious : A universal cultural repository

of archetypes and human experiences.
 Dream analysis  and the interpretation of symbols from the
collective unconscious that show up in dreams.
 Extroversion and introversion : Jung was the first to identify
these two personality  traits, and some of his work continues
to be used in the theory of personality and in personality
testing.
 Psychological complexes: A cluster of behaviors, memories,
and emotions grouped around a common theme. For
example, a child who was deprived of food might grow into an
adult smoker, nail biter, and compulsive eater, focusing on
the theme of oral satiation.
 An emphasis on spirituality : Jung argued that spirituality and
a sense of the connectedness of life could play a profound
role in emotional health.
This are some of the books that were written by the sophisticated
philosopher Carl Jung

 Psychology of the Unconscious (1912)

 Psychological Types (1921)
 Essays on Contemporary Events (1947)
 Synchronicity: An Acausal Connecting Principle  (1952)
 The Undiscovered Self  (1957)
 Memories, Dreams, Reflections (1961)
 Man and His Symbols  (1964)
 The Archetypes and The Collective Unconscious  (2nd ed.
with R. Hull, 1981)
 The Red Book  (with Sonu Shamdasani, 2009)

Carl Jung, in my opinion, was a brilliant philosopher who made a

significant contribution to our lives. He is the one to look up to and
adore. He set a good example for us, and we should follow in his
footsteps since we will be ancestors too to the next generation in the
future. I'm amazed at him because of his ability and capability when it
comes in writing and being a philosopher, he was an inspiration to the
youth. He uses his writing skills to persuade his readers to understand
the different archetypes and the unconscious mind’s power. He did not
just focus on one purpose and desire. One of my favorite saying of Carl
Jung is that “We cannot change anything unless we accept it.” Every
mistake we committed in the past, we cannot change it anymore. We
cannot turn back the time and change our mistakes the way we want
because does not work in real life. Accepting things in the present  is the
best option; let go of the past and concentrate on the present in which we
are able to accept it.
