CHAPTER I: INTRODUCTION

The development of technology provides a great impact on some sectors of life. The
development of a more advanced technology is making some sectors are required to be more
developed along with the development of technology and one of them is in the education sector.
In the education sector, education is required to be able to take advantage of the development
of technology with both as part of the effort to improve education because with advanced
education will affect the progress of the nation. Therefore, education played a big part to
increase the quality of the nation. Attention to the world of education in the use of technology
for the purpose of education is very important because without special attention isn't it will not
grow as technology development which should be used for maximum.
One of the ways to take advantage of technology development in the world of education
is on the learning that was carried out by educators. Learning is the most important component
in education. The success of learning is determined by the students are able to understand the
learning delivered by educators. And the students are required to be active and independent in
the learning process. Learning requires active interaction between the teachers and students
who will make the learning can be achieved by media. The current learning requires the
students to be active and independent so that will be formed and learning concentrated on
students or student center learning. To support this, so teachers are required to use the right
method of learning and the method can be supported by learning media in the process of
delivering the material to the students. The teaching will be deemed more effective when
teachers and students using this method and learning media that adequate. The Media used to
support the learning must be able to grow the motivation in students. Media used to clarify the
message that will be delivered, invigorate and spirit of the students so that the students are
motivated in the learning process and also makes it easier to students in receiving the learning
delivered.
One of the transfers of information to the students is by using the technology. The use
of this technology allowed for teaching and learning activities as other sources are required to
support the learning activities in the classroom. Teachers are required to be able to follow the
development of technology as one of the supporting learning activities that one can be
implemented on a learning media. Examples of media that can be used by a educators or
teachers including computer-based media, media audio and visual media graphics, media
presentation, media photos, media projector and internet-based media. Each of these media has
the advantages and disadvantages of each one destined. Teachers are expected to be able to use
the media in the teaching and learning process that could certainly make enthusiastic students
increased and the students are motivated to follow the teaching and learning process in the
classroom and make the students actively in the learning process. One of the media that is able
to attract students and gives the students motivation to learn is Wordwall.

What Is Wordwall?
Wordwall is a platform that allows teachers to easily create activities for their
classroom. Wordwall a web-based tool that offers teachers an easy way to extend and
consolidate vocabulary with fun practice. Wordwall can be used to create both interactive and
printable activities such as multiple-choice, grouping or matching. There is a wide range of
templates, but you can only use up to six for free. These templates are available both in
interactive and a printable version. The interactive ones can be played on any web-enabled
device, like a computer, tablet, phone or interactive whiteboard. The printables can printed out
directly or downloaded as a PDF file. Once you have created an activity, it is shareable in
different ways: you can give your learners a url, or web address, to access it, you can embed it
in your school’s online platform for your learners or you can give them a code to access it via
the Wordwall website.
''Wordwall takes vocabulary games and reviews into the digital world, and is easy to
use for teachers and learners. If you are looking to add a new digital tool to your teaching, this
is a very good place to start'' (Rob Lewis, 2017).

Language Level And Skills.

Wordwall is particularly useful for mixed-level classes, where you can assign fast
finishers an activity which they can easily access online, even from their phone. It can also
create a dynamic way to have class competitions. For any level of learner, Wordwall has
potential to be used for self-study, as you decide which content to use in the activities. You can
set tasks for groups or individual learners by giving them an access code (although remember

2
there is nothing to stop someone else doing the activity for them!). You could even get your
learners to use Wordwall to create activities for their classmates.

Language Learning Content.

Most activities are based on ‘items’. These are best understood as words or phrases
which you want to revise. You provide this content, although you can also use items or
activities which other users have made. For example, you could create a set of items which are
colors, and another sets which are shapes. These items can be made into an interactive grouping
activity, where students drag them into the right place, or they could be turned into multiple-
choice questions. They can also be made into games suited to younger, primary-aged learners,
such as ‘whack-a-mole’. If you build up a large bank of items for each group of vocabulary,
you can then, in one click, create an online activity of your choice to revise them. You can also,
if you prefer, create a printable worksheet.

Supporting Teaching And Learning.

Wordwall reminds me of when I used to use a ‘word box’: a real box which I put new
words and phrases in, each one on a piece of card. Those cards could then be used for a number
of different revision activities. Although some features can help other aspects of language
learning, Wordwall feels most useful for this kind of vocabulary revision. Research shows that
exposing students to vocabulary at ‘spaced’ intervals is helpful to their learning, and this is
even more helpful if there is some kind of task, such as grouping words or typing them out
correctly. Wordwall can help with this. You can easily share activities you create with other
teachers by making them publicly available on Wordwall’s website or posting them on social
media. You can also embed them on websites. If you like, you can track your students’ scores
when they do an activity by using the ‘assignment’ feature. You share the link to the activity
and it tracks the scores of each individual in one place. The number of assignments you can set
is limited according to your price plan. Although this probably works best if you can track
regularly, even with the basic (free) plan you can use this feature a few times a month. The
multi-player game feature allows you to host a real-time quiz for students, who can join using
their own web-enabled device.

CHAPTER III: CONCLUSION

Learning media using Wordwall can make it easier for teachers to prepare teaching
materials for their students. The advantages are that the theme can be adjusted to the learning
style and music accompaniment. Students will be happy to use this application because the
application is in the form of games that have various features. And students can access
themselves through their own smart phone devices at home. In the evaluation of the online
learning evaluation application, namely active play, where students through active play they
can share experiences through playing through exploring the situations and conditions they
face. And in the eyes of students, playing is also used as a means of socializing, establishing
intimacy with friends and as a means of learning, even though through virtual games there is
minimal movement activity.

Another advantage of using Wordwall is that the features provided are free, so teachers
and students can access unlimited media. However, despite the many advantages, there are
some disadvantages to using this media. Among them, teachers and students must have an
adequate internet connection in accessing or using this media considering that this web-based
application cannot be accessed outside the network.
