Learning Competency:
The learners
• identify basic tools available at home to construct simple electrical
gadgets;
• enumerate protocols (processes) in making electrical gadgets; TLE6IA-0f-
9
• construct simple electrical gadgets (extension cord) through
illustrations/drawings. TLE6IA-0f-8
Context:
Are you familiar with the tools needed in assembling an extension cord? Here is
the list of what you need to prepare before you start working.
• Plug - it is a small plastic or rubber object with two or three metal pins attached
to the end of a wire.
• Terminal - is a point of connection for closing an electric circuit.
• Pliers - is used chiefly for gripping small objects or bending wire.
• Wire - is a metal drawn out into the form of a thin flexible thread.
• Screwdrivers - is a tool with a star-shaped tip that fits into the head of a screw to
turn it
• Outlet - a device to which a piece of electrical equipment can be connected in
order to provide it with electricity
• Cutter - a sharp knife with a short blade that can be replaced or put
• inside the handle if not being used
Extension Cords are useful at home for they provide additional power outlets for
convenience. They also allow you to freely transfer to a more comfortable working area
with the gadget instead of being confined near the main power outlet.
Materials:
Electrical wire (depending on your desired length)
Plug
Outlet
Tools:
cutter
pliers
screwdriver
Procedure:
1. Take one of the ends of your electrical wire and peel the plastic insulator to expose
the wire. Take extra care when peeling, so you will not damage the wires inside.
Divide the wires into two to create connections for two metal terminals. Do this
on both ends.
2. Get the main plug. Using the screwdrivers, take off or remove the screwto loosen
each of the terminals.
3. Connect one end of the wire into the two terminals of the plug and tighten it with
the screw. Do not forget to cover it, so the wire will not be exposed and cause
electric shock.
4. Connect the other end of the wire to the outlet. Loosen the screw to open it, and
place the separated wires to the metal terminal inside the outlet.
5. Close the outlet and fasten it with screw tightly.
ACTIVITY 1
Match the names of the tools listed on Column A to their illustrations on Column B.
Write your answer before the given number.
ACTIVITY 2
Arrange the steps in order that they should be done. Write 1-5 in the space
provided. Write your answer before the number.
____ Connect the other end of the wire to the outlet. Loosen the screw to open it, and
place the separated wires to the metal terminal inside the outlet.
____ Take one of the ends of your electrical wire and peel the plastic insulator to expose
the wire. Take extra care when peeling, so you will not damage the wires inside. Divide
the wires into two to create connections for two metal terminals. Do this on both ends.
____ Close the outlet and fasten it with screw tightly.
____ Get the main plug. Using the screwdrivers, take off the screw to loosen each of the
terminals.
____ Connect one end of the wire into the two terminals of the plug and tighten it with
the screw. Do not forget to cover it, so the wire will not be exposed and cause electric
shock.
ACTIVITY 3
Read the following situation carefully. Fill in the correct word to complete each sentence.
Ross Dwayne needs to construct an extension cord as his project in TLE 6. Since he
cannot go outside because of the COVID-19 pandemic, he asked his father to buy
materials in the nearest hardware from their home. Can you help his father identify the
materials and tools they need to assemble an extension cord? Write the letter that
corresponds to the illustrations.
