METHOD STATEMENT FOR CABLE & CONDUIT SEAL INSTALLATION
1. SCOPE:
This method statement covers the procedure for the installation of cable & conduit
sealing
2. PURPOSE:
Seal are provided in conduit & cable system to minimize the passage of gasses and
vapors and prevent the passage of flames from one portion of electrical installation to
another through the conduit. So the purpose of this method statement is to provide
detailed requirements to be followed for the installation of conduit sealing to meet
the above requirements.
3. REFERENCE:
4 SAFETY:
4.1 Workers shall be informed of all safety requirement related to the activity through
a toolbox meeting.
5 MATERIALS RECEIVING:
5.1 Conduit sealing fitting shall be cast or forged steel, cast iron or malleable iron
either hot dip galvanized or zinc plated as supplied by the manufacturer.
5.2 Conduit sealing fitting shall be labeled, listed or certified by UL, FM or CSA.
5.3 All material shall be new and unused.

5.4 As designed electrical material shall be in accordance with the Saudi Aramco
project specifications and approved drawings.
5.5 Material shall be free of damage.
5.6 Material shall be traceable from the manufacturer.
6.1 When a conduit run is crossing hazardous location boundaries below ground, and
NEC article 501 requires a boundary seal, then the conduit run shall be sealed at
both places it emerges from the ground and/ or enters buildings below ground.
6.2 When cables entering enclosures are required to be sealed by NEC, and then it
shall be sealed by means of sealing fittings.
6.3 Wire fill of standard conduit sealing fittings shall not exceed 25% based on
conduit size.
6.4 The sealing compound shall be from same manufacturer as the conduit seal.
6.5 Prior to proceeding for sealing the cable shall be completely tested.
6.6 Sealing compound shall be mixed and poured at temperature above 40 degree F/
4 degree C.
6.7 The fibers dam and sealing compound shall be installed in strict compliance to the
manufacturer's instructions.
6.8 The following sequence shall be followed for all the conduit seal.
6.9 Separate the individual conductor in side the conduit seal chamber and pack the
damming fibers tightly around each conductor in conduit hub to prevent leakage
of sealing compound during pouring. Remove all fibers from the sealing chamber
and conductors. The completed dam and the conduit stop shall be level.
6.10 Use a clean container for mixing the dry compound. Manufacturer's instruction
for proportion mixing of compound and water shall be followed. Stire the mixture
thoroughly and do not allow to settle down. Do not mix more than the quantity
that can take more than 15 minutes to pour after addition of water in the
compound.
6.11 Pour the mixture into the sealing chamber through the filler opening until it
reaches the desired level as per the manufacturer' instruction or until the mixture
start to over flow through the drain opening. Mter pouring immediately close the
pour opening. When no more compound flows from the drain opening then
remove the plastic sleeve of the drain and tighten the drain breather provided.
6.12 Mark the sealing fitting with red mark to identify that it has been inspected and
sealed.
