Assignment Guidelines

Group Assignment – Total Marks – 20 marks

Submission due: 21st October 2021

Human Resource Development (HRD) practices facilitates building human capital through
training and development. It helps organisations to manage change, and build capacity at
different levels in the organisation. Training programs are also a way that organisations
demonstrate their commitment to developing employability skills sought by employees. With
changing times, the focus of HRD has broadened in included career development, mentoring
and coaching activities to develop talent across the organisation and impact performance
(Moore and Khan, 2020).

Competence comprises of knowledge, skills, and behaviours possessed by individuals, that


can be utilised to improve performance. Competency Based Training (CBT) can help
employees, master the skills required for the role develop talent by improving the knowledge,
expertise, and skills of employees and enable organisations to achieve the vision and mission
of the organization.

As an HR professional your role in designing and implementing a training program is very


critical. Right from identifying the training needs to designing interactive learning modules,
you have to demonstrate the economic value added through your training initiatives.

A leading furniture retail brand, BestWoodStore (BWS) is focussing on re-branding itself and
offering a new value proposition of offering low-cost furniture products and some innovative
features such as virtual reality views, Customisation of products, Advice by experts, and
online ordering by customer using the new online portal. The vision is to make its employees
more customer centric in their interaction and ensure that the managers have to competence
to lead their teams in an effective manner.

To meet the current requirements, you are responsible for designing a training program for
the Corporate Management Team which comprises of Product Managers. BestWoodStore
(BWS) has already mapped and developed competency framework for the Product Managers
of the organisation to help the firm achieve its new mission.

You are required to develop a Training Plan that would focus on:
• Identification of appropriate training needs based on the competency framework
• Ensure the training program addresses the immediate needs of the business
• Effective use of learning material and time
• Achieve learning outcomes to achieve the vision translating into measurable and
observable behaviours.

Use a systematic approach to develop and present training and development workshop any
one of the competencies outlined in Annexure 1.
A. Identification of organization’s objectives: Rationale for the organisation to
implement the training programs
B. Identifying skill gaps and Training Needs: Present details on how data would be
collected to Identify Training Needs and provide supporting behaviours# that would
be developed through the training program.
C. Assign Development Activities: Design an Individual Development Plan (IDP) form,
that would help the line manager to indicate specific skills, track and monitor
performance as part of Talent Management. The IDP form must include specific
behaviour indicators, courses and challenges that the learner may encounter. While
recommending specific courses, indicate the level cognitive level or approach you
are recommending based on adult theories covered in the course.
E. Evaluation: Based on the Competency Framework and supporting behaviours, who
would the training program be evaluated to demonstrate that there has been a change
in behaviour and the Return on Investment of the training program.
D. Cost Sheet : Determine the resources and training cost for the training program

# While specifying supporting behaviours and their desired outcomes, it must be linked to the
objective of the training (Point A) and must be specific and measurable. Ex. In Technical
Skills, it is not enough to say the learner will be able to use the pivot table function in Excel.
Instead, explain that the learner will make recommendations to operations based on pivot
table analysis of trends in product costs by product category.

Research & Submission Guidelines


• Students can refer to case studies or white papers for identifying best practices for
designing of the training programme.
• Students must use at least three (03) quality academic resources in this assignment.
Note: Wikipedia and similar Websites do not qualify as academic resources.
• You may conduct interviews and collect archival data, provided you follow specified
ethical procedures.
• Maximum length of report, not including references, appendices, figures or tables, is
3000 words.
• Typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins
on all sides.
• Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the
professor’s name, the course title, and the date.
• Include a reference page. Citations and references must follow APA format. The
reference page is not included in the required page length.
• Based on the above
• Based on the report, students are required to prepare a presentation (Maximum 15
minutes) in same order of the report.

Report Structure
1. Introduction (Review of Literature on the selected competence and how the specific
competence helps firms to achieve efficiency, productivity and achieve their strategic
goals
2. Training Plan (Details on the training and development workshop based on a
systematic approach covering Points A to D above)

• Develop communication skills through a clear training plan and their presentation
