Model UN

Brazil wants to open refugee camps to the displaced and encourage other countries to
commit to this also. However, the Taliban is against it, and believes that the UN should not be
involved in their crisis. Brazil has an amazing record and wants to not only open their borders for
safety, but help teach Afghans about agriculture and growth of social and environmental
movements, to address the lack of food, little access to schools, and much more.
People are fleeing the country due to recent military activity between the Taliban and the Afghan
security forces. Freezing temperatures make for poor sleeping conditions, many who are sleeping
outside or in tents. There is a lack of basic supplies to survive such as food, due to recent drought
and poor soil conditions, and medicine for another wave of pandemic. With how many people
are fleeing Afghanistan, Brazil and other countries want to open up refugee camps and
encourage the UN and other countries to open their borders and open refugee camps as well.
With over 6 million women and children fleeing Afghanistan and not having places to go this is
creating more problems with poverty, jobs, schooling, etc, which further exacerbates the crisis.
Since the US government left Afghanistan and their own military has taken over, the Taliban has
un-done over 20 years of hard work. This has also created problems as the UN made a promise
to protect and take care of all the women of Afghanistan, but with the Taliban retaliating and
threatening any help from other countries that promise has been broken making life for women
and girls in Afghanistan much harder. This needs to be solved immediately because Afghanistan
is on the verge of a “collapsing country”. In addition to the refugees, Afghanistan faces severe
agricultural despair. Not only is it difficult for them to grow a variety of crops, other than
poppies, they have little access to money to help them get their food to market “Afghanistan has
virtually no agribusiness in place. In addition, it is difficult for farmers to gain access to credit”
(ReliefWeb, pargh.8, line 1-2). This creates another issue of no import or export business.
Lastly, with the humanitarian rights not being properly protected, there is little hope for the
economy getting better. There must be social harmony and basic human rights and needs made
In order to make this possible we need to start making it known to the UN and other
countries how many Afghans are being displaced. We will be granting as many humanitarian
visas as we can. So far, “243 have been issued, but pales in comparison to the 1500 still waiting”
issues has a great advantage of helping out Afghanistan with their issues and the ones they need
to address. We are able to provide tips and possible resolutions to the many problems. As well as
having achieved many quadrupling agricultural achievements, we can use it to help Afghanistan
by “providing unproductive soil into cultivation, offering aid to farmers, and using improved
seeds and irrigation methods.(ReliefWeb, pargh.2) “With over 9000 technological advances in
our country over the years”(ReliefWeb, pargh.4) we can show the Afghan how to reduce costs
