Artistic Goals of Cubism

From my understanding, cubists believed that creating

realistic art was illusion and a form of trickery. That you could

not really experience the subject matter by a rendered painting.

You would need to see multiple angles of the object, or the

person, or the landscape, to really be able to see it.

Everything has more than one side to it and to really

understand it you need to see all of the different sides. They

used cubism as a way to depict this. The Many different geometric

shapes where the different angles they looked at things.

They used less shading to create pieces because they thought

that a painting should not pretend to be a window into a room but

rather a picture on a flat canvas and should reflect so by also

being flat. It should not lie or prentend to be something it is

not.
