DADA

So, I don’t exactly have a great understanding of the

concept of what DADA is, which I believe is the whole point of

DADA itself.

In the 9 minutes of the video Gaga for DADA, it starts off

with Jim doing a DADA poetry reading. He was dressed in a

cardboard suit saying words that were clearly not English. He is

viewed as silly and strange. I think this is so strange and it

appears to poke fun at what we normally do for entertainment.

Another part of the video he talks about how a lot of DADA

pieces are political. For instance, the mannequin hanging from

the ceiling wearing a police uniform and a pig's mask obviously

has to do with something political. Especially because pigs are

used as a not so nice term for cops. It is odd and completely

different from anything previous art movements had seen.

Jim also talks about the use of photo collage. It was seen

as weird and used for once again political reasons. It is now a

really common form of media and used on everything from album

covers to newspapers.

I think DADA is just a strange way of expressing yourself,

even if it doesn’t have a meaning behind it. It covers a wide

range of media and is all completely unique.
