Are you ever curious why people get addicted to social media once they begin engaging

themselves in them? I think it is extremely important to ask oneself this question so that one
can grasp what I will be talking about. The world of social media has a lot to offer, and it
entices us into viewing a variety of content. Such platforms that have such a profound impact
on us should be deemed important. It is appropriate in this case to say that good doesn't exist
without evil as the advent of social media has enhanced our day-to-day lives, yet it has also
brought so many negatives, especially when it comes to teenagers and how they are
interacting and communicating. The positive as well as negative effects of social media have
been thoroughly explored by me and I got so captivated by how social media is negatively
affecting teenagers, how they communicate and interact, as well as the harassment and
bullying they experience.

To begin with, social media is causing damage. Teenagers' brain development is affected
by social media, which slows their activities. It is a well-known fact that teens' overuse of
social media affects them in a number of ways, including how they react to situations, how
they process events and how they remember events. Another, social media is the primary
place where models with beautiful features like smooth skin, long hair, and white teeth post
their pictures and these photos affect teenagers who look at their bodies as if they are not in
good shape and believe that they are incapable of being as beautiful as those models. In turn,
this lowers their self-esteem and makes them feel as if their image isn't worthwhile. Moreover,
the majority of teenagers check their smartphones or computers until late at night so they can
stay up to date on social media since they don't want to miss out. The result of this is that they
sleep fewer hours, which adversely affects their health. They seem anxious and stressed due
to lack of sleep and have difficulty learning and concentrating.

Apart from that, it also negatively impacts both communication and interaction. Online
socialization and getting updates on gadgets are always a part of most people's lives. It thus
makes it difficult for people to communicate effectively and interact intensively, since they
have less one-on-one interaction. Additionally, it decreases the number of personal
relationships. Most of the relationships these days are mediated by online platforms. Families
may be living together, but instead of interacting one-on-one, members of the family are using
social media to communicate. Social media addiction is also a result of too much focus on it. It
is because people don't want to fall behind in what's going on in the world that they're always
on social media. Due to this, communication and interaction have been negatively impacted
since these people are so bad at personal communication and since they often do not interact
with others.

Finally, bullying and women harassment online have been increased. Cyberbullying
presents a multidimensional problem but, the intention behind each of these is the same; it is
to hurt people and harm them. This situation should be taken seriously, since it can have
many damaging effects on the victim; it disturbs a person's mental peace, people who have
been cyberbullied are known to become depressed and they may even self-harm as a result,
being denigrated by others makes them feel inferior, there are feelings of insecurities and
complexes associated with it, and victims worry and lose their inner peace. Another is women
harassment. There are many dramas and movies based on the harassment of women that
are viewed by teenagers. Through the representation of women and men in these dramas, the
audience feels extremely comfortable with the kidnapping, teasing, and disrespecting of
women (either physically or morally). Therefore, teenagers try to apply the same principles in
their lives, which causes the girls to feel uncomfortable and mentally uneasy. Combined, both
damage a person's image.

Now you all realize that social media does not only contribute positively to our lives,
but also negatively impacts them. Social media is negatively affecting teenagers; it
damages our brain development, it reduces our self-image and self-esteem, and lack of
sleep due to always wanting to get updates from social media, and another is it
negatively impacts both communication and interaction; it makes us get addicted, it
decreases our personal relationships and lowers the time of face-to-face interactions
and lastly, the increase number of bullying and women harassment online. All in all, I’m
not telling you to stop using social media or to use it more. However, my desire is to tell
that you should use social media in positive way. Moreover, this is for you to be aware of
how it can negatively impact your life or the ones you care about and to decrease the
amount of time that you spend on social media.
