Chapter 5 Operation

5.1 Engine Start and PTO


The function of PTO is transmitting the engine power to the oil pump to get high-pressure oil,
which is distributed to the working mechanisms via control valve so as to carry out every
movement.
This truck crane has two independent PTOs, which supply power to superstructure and
outrigger separately.
5.1.1 Superstructure PTO
The superstructure engine drive the primary oil pump through flywheel coupling to make the
superstructure PTO gain working pressure oil, and then through operating the superstructure
control valve to realize the movements of all mechanisms of superstructure.
Superstructure engine system includes engine, inlet system, fuel supply system, cooling
system,air-air middle cooling system and exhaust system.
Before starting the engine, should first check the water level in water tank to see if it is normal
and fuel in fuel tank is sufficient. Turn preheating start switch to start engine after
confirmation. Preheat the engine for 5 minutes, start to work after check whether all
instrument switches are normal.

CAUTION:

a. Engine cooling liquid is antifreeze and rust-preventive fluid. Adopt different


freeze points class cooling liquid according to ambient temperature (Adopt -5℃
class cooling liquid in normal season, while in winter adopt -25℃ ~ -35℃ class
cooling liquid before delivery.). Prohibit using water instead of cooling liquid.
b. When heat the engine, oil level should be between the max. marking and min.
marking on oil dipstick, if the oil level has dropped below the min. marking, should
add engine oil.

Procedure for operating superstructure PTO:


1)Start superstructure engine
Insert key to preheat starting switch, and then turn it clockwise to start the engine.

2)Select the working speed of superstructure engine
Press PTO switch to select the working speed of superstructure engine.

For the details of PTO switch, please refer to No. 23 of Section 3.2.5 in Chapter 3 (3.2.5
Instrument Controls in Operator’s Cab).
3)After finishing the above-mentioned operation, can operate the superstructure.
5.1.2 Outrigger PTO
Outrigger PTO obtains working pressure oil which is from the chassis engine through drive
gear pump of the gear-box. The steering/outrigger changeover switch can open the pressure
oil circuit of chassis hydraulic system and outrigger motions can be realized by outrigger
control mechanism.
Procedure for operating outrigger PTO:
1) Start chassis engine.
For the details, please refer to Operating Manual for Special purpose Chassis.
2 )Press the “power switch of outrigger box” in driver’s cab to make the outrigger control
box electrified.

3)After finishing the above-mentioned operation, can operate outriggers.
