TRANSCULTURAL NURSING

INTRODUCTION
Transcultural nursing is how professional nursing interact with the concept of culture.

Transcultural nursing is the study of the life ways and patterns of persons of various cultures
including their health care practices and nursing role in that culture.

PHILOSOPHY
Transcultural Nursing care is a well-established theoretical framework. This theory, developed
by Madeleine Leininger, can have an impact on clinical practice, academic preparation and
nursing research.

 Transcultural nursing is a comparative study of culture to understand similarities and


differences across human group.
 Various groups are examined with respect to their caring behaviour, nursing care, health
and illness values, beliefs and patterns of behaviour.

AIM
The aim of transcultural nursing is to provide sensitive and effective nursing care to meet the
cultural needs of individuals, families and groups, to integrate transcultural concepts, theories
and practices into nursing education, research and clinical applications.

OBJECTIVE’S
 On the completion of three months course of transcultural nursing the students will be
able to
 Describe Knowledge and understanding to from an ethnographic approach the
importance of nursing culture and the meetings in the caring context and their
relevance to the health and illness.
 Skills and abilities by applying ethnographic methodology analyses meeting in a
health care environment with different cultural background.
 Ability to evaluate and approve
 Reflect on how health and illness can be eliminated from an ethnographic perspective

 Reflect on health professionals.

ELIGIBILITY
 The candidate should be registered nurse and registered midwife to equivalent with any
state nursing registration council.
 Candidate shall be medically fit.
 The minimum education requirements shall be passing of Diploma (N), B.Sc. (N) OR
P.B.B.Sc.(N) with minimum of 50% aggregate marks

COURSE OF INSTRUCTIONS
 The teaching method used in the course is lecture, seminar and clinical training.
 The teaching and seminar are conducted in English.
 Above 50% pass in each of the theory and practical separately.
 Student has pass in internal assessment and university exam separately with 50% marks
each.
 A candidate has pass in theory and practical exam separately in each of the paper.
 Maximum period to complete the course successfully should not exceed 6 months.
 The candidate must have 80% attendance for theory & practical for appearing final
examination.
 If the candidate fails in either theory or practical exam, he/ she has to reappear for both
the paper
 All practical examination must be held in the respective clinical areas.
