1. OBJECTIVE
The purpose of this procedure is to ensure that COntractorspun Enterprises
Limited (CONTRACTOR) undertakes all cleaning and grubbing activities for
construction of highways in accordance with the Civil Project specifications and
applicable codes & standards.
2. APPLICABILITY
This procedure is applicable for Civil Project for all cleaning and grubbing activities for
construction of highways to be performed by CONTRACTOR. The intent of this
procedure is to ensure that uniform understanding is established between all persons
involved in the project activities by CONTRACTOR, Partners, Consultants and Client
during project execution to avoid or eliminate possible errors. The work consists of
site clearing, grubbing, cutting, excavating, removing & disposing of all material such
as trees up to 300mm girth, bushes, stumps, shrubs & roots of trees up to 300 mm
girth, grass weeds , rubbish and top soil up to 150 mm. Backfilling with suitable soil
into pits resulting from uprooting of stumps.

CONSTRUCTION PROCEDURE

a) The site shall be cleared by Excavators / JCB as per site requirement &
conditions. The pits formed due to uprooting of trees shall be back filled
with suitable material & compacted with power / Vibratory roller to the
required compaction or shall be filled by granular material.
b) The Right of Way (ROW) be surveyed and set out according to the data
stated in the drawings.
c) To determine whether site is free from obstruction and in case of
nonconformity, photographs shall be taken of structures, landscaping,
trees and shrubs, fences, telephone and electrical poles and other
obstructions.
d) The locations of these items shall be identified according to the survey data
offsets from the centre line of the proposed alignments in road
construction.
e) Prior to demolition of existing buildings we shall liaise with the respective
authorities to terminate/divert the utilities as required by the concerned
authorities as per clause 110.7.
f) Cutting of trees shall be carried out in consultation with the Engineers and
prior approval of the concerned authority.
g) Fencings or others that are to be relocated or salvaged shall be carried out
according to the Drawings or as per instructions given by the Independent
Engineer.
h) Obtain the right of way limits from the Authority.
i) Solid waste dumps sites shall be predetermined within or outside the site
for the dumping of the site clearing materials as advised by the Engineer.
j) The site clearance team shall then proceed to clear the trees, vegetation,
bushes and minor structures by hydraulic excavators or JCB and or
manually.
k) All unwanted materials shall be piled up and disposed off in a tidy manner
at the designated dumping areas.

l) Material designated in the Contract or directed by the Engineer to be
salvaged, shall be removed and stored within the Right of Way and shall
be the property of the Authority.
m) Excavation/Back filling resulting from uprooting of trees and stumps shall
be done with suitable soil to the required compaction.
n) Survey of existing ground level shall be carried out by the Contractor.
o) All unsuitable material arising from clearing and grubbing operation shall
be disposed off and suitable material if any shall be deposited nearer to
road side for further use in Embankment / Sub grade.
p) The ground after clearing & Grubbing shall be watered and compacted by
vibratory / power roller for embankment density of 95%, for sub grade
density 97% with relative natural ground density.

q) On fill slopes, the filling shall be done in layers with extended width to
allow cut back to form the slope in compacted material.

r) The slope trimming shall be completed after the pavement and shoulders
are completed. The trimmed slope is to be turfed if specified.

s) Engineering stage checks shall be jointly carried out and recorded at the
top of Embankment Fill and top of Formation/Sub grade levels.

t) The construction of side drain shall follow closely to the slope trimming and
surface water shall be regulated to discharge to the side drain.
