4. COMPREHENSIVE SUMMARY OF GEOTECHNICAL DATA

The site investigation revealed that loose surface deposits medium dense sands are scattered
randomly over the entire site area. Based upon the results of field and laboratory tests and the
interpretation of the generalized stratigraphy, subsoils are described in the followings:
Total 13 boreholes were carried out in DR area, the typical soil profile of DR area is shown in the below
figure 2.

Soil density was varying from generally medium dense to very dense in condition from the existing
site grade, water depth various from 1.71m to 1.86m below the EGL and Fine Content is almost less
than 15%.

All the geotechnical data has been obtained from the submitted Geotechnical Investigation Report
which was prepared by approved subcontractor (named ‘Fugro-Suhaimi Ltd.’)

7. OVERVIEW and DETAILS OF THE DYNAMIC REPLACEMENT

Loose layers can be treated by DR, an extension of the dynamic compaction process. In this method,
suitable granular fill is driven and compacted into the ground using high energy hammer to form large
diameter replacement columns. The columns reinforce the soil and improve drainage.
DR are formed through a series of “tamping and backing-filling sequences” by dropping specified
weights called hammer from designed heights. This process used heavier drop weights than Dynamic
Compaction to improve the penetration and punching of weight through the in-situ soft soils. DR can
be formed using a variety of granular fills with fines content of less than 15%.

8. EXECUTION / METHOD PROCEDURE

8.1 DESIGN PARAMETER

The design parameters are established based on the Design Report (refer to Appendix A.
Design Report) and verified by trial test.
It was verified by trial test and the result is available in Appendix B. Assessment Report of DR
Trial.
Column Hammer
Area
Dia(m) Length(m) Space(m) Weight(t) Height(m)
DR 1 1.6~2.0 6.5 4.2 20 15
DR 2 1.6~2.0 4.5 5.0 20 15
DR 3 1.6~2.0 3.0~4.5 4.5~5.0 20 18
* Ironing : Weight(10t), Height(10m), Drop(1nos)

DR work shall stop when one of below two principles satisfies the requirements:
- Cumulative depth of crater achieves the design depth of replacement column in each DR
area
- Cumulative depth of crater has converged. This will depend on trial compaction results

8.2 WORK PROCEDURE

8.2.1 Grubbing/Sripping work (removal of grass, contaminated soil)

8.2.2 Preparation of backfilling material fro in-situ soil

Replacement

8.2.3 Mark the Position of ramming point and measure the elevation of site

8.2.4 The DC machine moves in place and the rammer is placed at ramming point

8.2.5 Tamp and record the crater depth of tamping; when the tamping is too deep for
the hammer to be hoisted, stop tamping and fulfill the tamping pit, record the
quantity of filling

8.2.6 Repeat the section 8.2.5 until the design tamping times and quality control
standards are met

8.2.7 Complete the construction of all tamping point. Tamp from inside to outside or
interlacing if necessary

8.2.8 After leveling the site, surface compaction in low energy will be carried out to
densify the loose soil on the surface of the site, and then measure the elevation
of the site after compaction

8.2.9 The DC machine moves in place and the rammer is placed at ramming point
