Run the simulation for 2Ghz, otherwise the smith tool option is not enabled.
Now in the smith tool option, locating the point zL = 2+ j2.4 which is the normalized load
impedance. The point is an approximate point, so we need to go as close as possible to the
exact value.
Now we move along the SWR circle to get to the r = 1 circle on the smith chart.
We select the series capacitive option and move the point to the origin as close as possible.
Thus matching values of the stub are found (length and distance values in terms of angle)
The sub-circuit of the stub is given.
After analyzing NWA2 solution, we go to results → create results → rectangular plots and chose
S11 parameter, and click add trace.
We used series stub matching for this experiment. The goal of this experiment is
to take the load point to the origin where the value of reflection coefficient is 0.
And the r = 1 circle passes through the origin.
The required parameters are the length of the stub and the distance of the stub
from the load. Both the parameters are found through the smith tool of Ansoft
Designer.
The graph above shows the Return loss which is related to the magnitude of the
reflection coefficient. The parameters that we found for the stub are for 2Ghz
input signal. And after the analysis of the circuit for range of frequencies
(0-5Ghz), it is seen that the return loss (RL) gives the optimum value at 2 Ghz
(the best value is -infinity). As we deviate from the design frequency, the value of
Return Loss gets worse.
