Oprah is a savvy business woman and an inspiration for women entrepreneurs. Here are 5
lessons which we can learn from her life, wisdom and work:

5 Lessons from Oprah Valuable for Women Entrepreneurs

Oprah is perhaps one the most phenomenal and iconic figures of modern times for many
reasons: she beat the odds of illegitimacy, poverty, sexual abuse and racism to be where she is
today: a self-made billionaire, a woman who is richer in wealth but more so in values. A true
embodiment of a spiritual entrepreneur, Oprah is a role model for aspiring women
entrepreneur due to the unique and inspiring way she choose to think, work, and live. Here are
5 ways entrepreneurs can draw true inspiration from her words, wisdom and work:

Change Your Mindset

Oprah is perhaps the greatest preacher of mindset change and its living example. According to
her: ‘The greatest discovery of all time is that a person can change their future by merely
changing their attitude…The smallest change in perspective can transform a life. What tiny
attitude adjustment might turn your world around.’ So changing your thinking, habits, and
attitude from negative to positive would impact not only your personal life but also your
professional life.

Make Your Passion Your Business

Nicknamed ‘the little speaker’, Oprah had a knack for acting, reading, reciting even as a child.
She was always passionate about helping people. She was fired from her job as a reporter due
to her emotional and involved but found her vocation in the talk shows. Consequently, she used
her own show as a device to touch and soothe innumerable souls, to inspire and help them lead
a better life. Oprah believes: “What I know is that if you do work that you love, and the work
fulfills you, the rest will come.”

Plan Your Luck

Oprah believes in luck to a certain but she believes more so in planning, as she says: “Luck is a
matter of preparation meeting opportunity.” She hasn’t built her $2.7 billion business empire
by just getting lucky. She believes that everyone has great ideas but preparedness help you
recognize opportunities when they come knocking and make the best of them. She emphasizes
in laying down a map for your business, no matter how small it happens to be and swears by
one-page business plans.

Work for It
Oprah continuously worked in the direction of her dream. She says that she knew from an early
age that she was ‘responsible for herself’ and that she ‘had to make it good’. Her belief is: ‘The
big secret in life is there is no secret. Whatever your goal. You can get there if you’re willing to
work.’ And she continues to work hard despite crossing the retirement age.

Make the Strategic Moves, Continually

Oprah believes in continuously listening to one’s instinct, ‘finding the flow with your name on it’
and making the ‘next move’. For her, doing the best in the current moment puts one in the best
place for the next moment. Like a true serial entrepreneur, Oprah didn’t limit herself to talk
show hosting but diversified her niche into publishing, music, films, health, fitness, education
and excelled.

Oprah is a living example that if we all choose to live our lives as consciously, meticulously and
purposefully and spiritually as Oprah, we won’t become billionaires but will experience the
same breakthrough, ‘Oprah moment’ in our lives that can help us become better and successful
women entrepreneurs. I have been teaching aspiring business women and entrepreneurs and
