Review
I’m going to review an electronic device that I like most. It’s a smart phone & its name is iphone
X. It’s product of Apple company. About specification, its body is designed by glass with
stainless steel frame. The display screen up to 5.8 inches super AMOLED touchscreen & it’s
powered by A11 bionic hexa core processor with dual 12MP rear camera & 7MP front camera.
Beside, it has the battery life up to 21 hours. It’s also has some key features are animoji which
help track your facical expression & record what u say and it can recognize your face by face
ID. In my opinion, it has some pros such as: wide touch screen with touch screen up to 5.8
inches, high processor with A11 processor & high security with face ID. However, it also hase
some cons such as: the glass body is very easy broken and it’s very expensive with $999 for
64GB & $1490 for 256 GB. But I still choose it for the following reasons. Firstly, it’s designed
very beautiful with glass body. Secondly, it has a lot of model feature like animoji & no home
button. Finally, it has high security with face ID which help me protect my phone.
That all about my smart phone & I’m very like it.

Operation of CPU:

2
I will show you the operation of the CPU. CPU is Central Processing Unit and the most
important part in the computer system. Its main functions is processing, calculating and moving
data. Some basic components of the CPU include CU, LU, register and cache memory.

The control unit (CU) is used to direct the computer system to process program instruction. The
logic unit (LU) is used to perform calculation & logical operation. The function of register is hold
data of the processor. The cache memory is used for storing program instruction.

The operation of CPU is very simple. Firstly, when users request an instruction or a program,
CPU will draw it from RAM, then read, calculate and transport data. Data will travel through
system bus and they will be processed here. Thus, the action requested by the user is done
and the user gets the processed and calculated information.

Card p41

Student A: Good morning! Can I help you?

Student B: Yes, I’m looking for a laptop for gaming. Have you got any fairly basic ones?

Student A: Yes, sure. If you’d like to come over here …

Student B: What different model are there?

Student A: At the moment we’ve got these two models: The Dell Inspiron and the Lenovo
Legion.

Student B: Can you give me some information about their displays and processors?

Student A: Both of them come with Full HD display, but the screen size of Dell Inspiron is 15
inches and the Lenovo Legion’s is 15.6 inches. The Dell is powered by 2.5-Ghz Intel Core i5
processor, and the Lenovo’s is 2.8-GHz Intel Core i7.
Student B: So the Lenovo’s display is bigger than the Dell, and its processor is speedier and
more powerful than the Dell’s. What about their storage capacity and battery life?
Student A: The Dell comes with 8GB RAM and 1 TB hard drive with 256 GB SSD. The Lenovo
has 16GB RAM and 2 TB hard drive with 128 GB SSD. About the battery life, the Dell lasts for
11 hours, but the Lenovo only lasts for 6 hours.
Student B: So the Lenovo has more storage capacity than the Dell, but the Dell’s battery life is
longer than the Lenovo’s. And how much do they cost?
Student A: The Dell is $899 and the Lenovo is $1199.
Student B: So the Lenovo is more expensive than the Dell. Are there any further features?

Student A: Both of them come with a backlit keyboard. However, the Dell has a spacious
touchpad with smooth texture, nice clicky response and accurate gesture. The Lenovo has a
3
little awkward touchpad with upside-down trapezoid shape and pieces of plastic, so you can get
pain when using it.

Student B: OK! I’ll take the Dell Inspiron.

Student A: Thank you very much!

Card p45

Student A: Good morning, B! What are you doing?

Student B: My old phone has stopped working. I want to buy a new one. I really like the iPhone
X, so I’m searching for some information about this device.

Student A: Wow! I’m also interested in this latest product of Apple. What are the typical
specifications of iPhone X?

Student B: According to Apple’s official website, iPhone X has a glass body with stainless steel
frame. It is equipped with a 5.8-inch super AMOLED touchscreen and powered by A11 Bionic
hexa-core processor. It features dual a 12MP rear camera and a 7MP augmented reality front
camera. The phone’s battery life lasts up to 21 hours. Do you have any information about its
main features?

Student A: As far as I know, iPhone X is built with Face ID, which is enabled by TrueDepth
camera for facial recognition. It has no home button and fingerprint sensor. Another feature
enabled by TrueDepth camera is Animoji, which tracks your facial expression and records what
you say. The iPhone X also comes with wireless charging. Do you know how much does it
cost?

Student B: It’s $999 for 64GB version, and $1,149 for 256GB version. What do you think about
the pros of iPhone X?

Student A: In my opinion, iPhone X has an updated and premium design with a gorgeous
screen. It is powered by a powerful processor and built with excellent rear camera and first-of-
its-kind augmented reality front camera. Face ID is impressive, and Animoji is an outstanding
feature. Wireless charging is also a nice feature.

Student B: That’s right! I couldn’t agree with you more.

Student A: What about its cons? What do you think?

4
Student B: From my viewpoint, the iPhone X’s glass back is fragile and the steel frame can
scuff without case. The iPhone X does not have home button or fingerprint sensor, so major
adjustments and key features are harder to reach and use. And the biggest con is its price -
very expensive.

Student A: Yes, that’s definitely true. However, in spite of its minor cons, I think I’ll buy an
iPhone X if I have enough money.

Student B: And I need to think about it for a bit.

Unit 8

Case study 1

Nhung: Good morning Mr. Tring. Thank you for coming in for the interview. Let’s go ahead
and start. Can you tell me something about yourself?

Tring: Well, as you can see from my CV, I am a creative thinker. I’d like to explore
alternative solutions to problems and have an open mind about what will work best. My
creativity has made me an effective member because I can anticipate problems and give
solutions.

Nhung: Could you tell me about something that’s not on your resume?

Tring: You can see from my resume that I used to be a member of a robotics club at my
university. And I want to add more that I really like the time when I and two of my friends
were working together, discussing eagerly to design and test a new robot for Robocom
competition. We even stayed over night for nearly a week and worked non-stop for building
a successful robot for the competition.

Nhung: Well, that sounds great. And ..what is your greatest strength?

Tring: My ability to work with many different people is my greatest strength. I enjoy learning
from everyone I meet. When I joined the club, I learned how to develop my relationship with
my team members as well as my ability to communicate with people , which allowed me to
be more confident and effective. This job requires a lot of teamwork and I believe my
communication and interpersonal skills will allow me to complete this work successfully.

Nhung: uhm. Could you tell me how you handle your stress and pressure?

Tring: I actually work better under pressure, and I've found that I enjoy working in a
challenging environment. Last year, when I had to do three things at the same time: I just
9
started my part- time job in IFI Solutions, I prepared for my graduation defense and I
attended an extra English class to improve my English communication. Sometimes I felt
stressed but I was trying my best most of the time to handle these. And finally, I still
graduated with A score for my graduation defense and got B1 certificate for my English
level. I found myself doing well under pressure.

Nhung: Oh I see. So what do you think will motivate you in your work?

Tring: Well, I’d like to be a part of a team with a lot of bright people who have interesting
ideas.

Nhung: Great. Now, let’s talk more about your knowledge about electronics field…

Case study 2

PV: Ok, I see that you’ve just graduated from Hanoi University of Industry in Electronics
Engineering. Why did you choose to study Electronics Engineering?

ND: I've always been interested in robotics since I was small. When my university time came
up, I figured out that it’s time for me to follow my passion and improve my interest in
robotics.

PV: What did you most enjoy your time at university?

ND: I truly enjoyed all in my courses, especially I loved spending my time on designing
robots with my friends in a robot club at my university. It was so wonderful when we could
create a robot by ourselves.

PV: So what skills did you learn at university?

ND: I loved being independent and self-determined in all aspects of my student life. At first,
it was so strange to me to live far away from my family and I had to take care of myself. But
later on, I considered this as a chance for me to challenge myself and become more
independent.

PV: What was your most challenging aspect of your degree course?

ND: Personally I think English subject is the most challenging aspect that most of the
students at my university have to obtain. You know, we had to study not only general
10
English but also many issues in our major in English, and English accounted for 30 credits in
our degree course.

PV: I see that’s the reason why your English now is quite good. Now, let’s move to your
working experience...
