Jominy End Quench Test For Hardenability.

Aim:
Determination of hardenablility of sheet of steel by
jominy End quench Test.

Principle:
Heat treatment is common method to. modify
properties of a material also a case of steel alloys heat
treatment applied on material (steel alley copper alloy etc)
caused it to can be hardened and also softer when Steel
of rapidly cooled quenched and has required amount of
carbon, the Iran forms a phone known as mouetersite.

Introduction:
The Jominy end quench test is used to measure the
hardenability of a steel, which is a measure of the capacity
of the steel to harden in depth under a given set of
conditions. This TLP considers the basic concepts of
hardenability and the Jominy test.
Hardenability depends on the chemical composition of the
steel and also be affected by prior processing conditions,
such as the austenitizing temperature. It is not only
necessary to understand the basic information provided
from the Jominy test, but also to appreciate how the
information obtained can be used to understand the
effects of alloying in steels and the steel microstructure.

Case Study:
The objective of this study is to be achieve the
specific required hardenability(not hardness)of railway
steel cooling rate of the distance of hardness depth in
Jaminy test help in the selection of welding process for
railway steel.
Certain specimen prepared for testing are:
First group hold more hardness second and each group
had two specimen for heat results, from each group one
specimen was certainly heated at temperature 85degree c
for an hour and other specimen for 50 degree c then after
giving heat treatment each specimen a was tested using
water for cooling down the temperature to normal room
temp.
For test result we had found that metal specimen group
had higher hardenability then
It Was conclude that initial sample was to be used for
railway steel purpose due it its specific properties
I.e Hardenability is of two types
1) Low Hardenability
- Shallow hardenability
- High critical cooling rate
2) High Hardenability
-deep hardenability
- required lower critical cooling rate
Procedure:
1) specimen cylinder is normalized to eliminate differences
in microstructure due to ferging and autennized at
2)Then specimen transferred to be test machine. where it
is held vertically & sprayed with controlled flow of water an
end.
3)Temp of water sprayed is 24°c And then using rockwell
hardness test the harddness of Speeimer measured in
internal of 1.5mm for alloyed steel &015 mo for corban
Steel
Adavntages :
1) The cast and time effective way to determine the
hardenabilty of steel
2) The test is easy to perform and provides useful
information if you know how to used it.
Disadvantages:
However hardness have values achieved in test cannot be
used directly for actual part being quenched as it is onmy
prediction.
Application:
The Jominy end quench test is used to measure the
hardenability of a steel, which is a measure of the capacity
of the steel to harden in depth under a given set of
conditions.

Conclusion:
Jominy test shows how different metal behave when
quenched and their ability to increase hardness small
alloying elements cause a big change in properties also
Ice Steele is a fun of carton content and other alloying
moments and grain size of austenite.
