It is my pleasure to offer this letter of reference for Hank Perrin to demonstrate prior learning that could be acquired on field placement. I supervised Hank in my former role at KCHC Pathways to Education from June to September 2018 during his time as the Community Outreach Assistant. Hank’s role was to support a program evaluation called the Innovation Grant Project by collecting data through community engagement. The final report for our project is available here, for your interest and information. Hank received all relevant legislative training including AODA, Workplace Violence and Harassment and KCHC-based community health training. Hank’s understanding of the Rideau Heights neighbourhood, his experience with our program and his natural ability with people made him the ideal candidate for on- the-spot interviews and discussions with community members at a local market. Part of Hank’s role was to help support the logistics of these events, including communications, set-up, and tear down. Hank also conducted a focus group with senior Pathways students with great skill. In both scenarios, Hank explained and obtained informed consent prior to any data collection, which is an essential element of successful and safe youth work. Hank’s office hours involved regular meetings with me to consolidate and analyze data. Hank was attentive and insightful, and asked thoughtful questions not only about the findings, but also about the broader scope of the project and its impact on the community. Hank demonstrated superb coachability and willingness to try new things. When possible, Hank also conferred with other Pathways team members and learned about the inner workings of a youth-serving organization. I am confident that our work together on the Innovation Grant Project replicated a placement experience for Hank. Combined with his five years as a participant in our program, Hank’s time as the Community Outreach Assistant allowed for an in-depth and nuanced understanding of the mechanics of youth work. On a personal note, it was a highlight of my career to work alongside Hank, whom I have known since he was in Grade 10. He is thoughtful, engaged, and full of integrity. I am grateful to know him. Please contact me at clostlamberte@limestone.on.ca with any questions. Thank you for considering Hank’s request. Sincerely,
